Explorer Express Summer Update for 7/27/20
Message from Mr. Chadwick, Principal Weatherstone Elementary School
Hello Explorer Community!
I hope that your family is staying safe and cool during these hot days. In today's message I have included a few important reminders for this week.
- Information on the WCPSS Virtual Academy
- Reminder to Complete the WCPSS Technology Survey
- WES Updates and Information for the New School Year
WCPSS has posted resources about the Virtual Academy and the Return to Campus Website and the Return to Campus Guidelines online. Please note that as guidance and restrictions continue to be updated, WCPSS and Weatherstone Elementary, will update our policies and procedures as well.
Please make sure to read over the information carefully. We know that there are many unanswered questions still out there and we are working hard to get them to you. In the meantime, please stay safe, keep your children reading and help them practice washing their hands, wearing a mask and remaining at a safe social distance from others. We hope to have videos ready for students returning to campus later this fall to help them in preparation for those three main healthy goals.
WCPSS Virtual Academy Updates
WCPSS and Weatherstone Elementary School are committed to providing the best academic experiences for your children in a safe and healthy environment, based on the guidance we receive from educational, health and government organizations. To that end, WCPSS has announced the creation of the Virtual Academy, a completely online option.
Reminder: New Application Period for WCPSS Virtual Academy
All students will have a second opportunity to apply for the WCPSS Virtual Academy on July 27 - July 29. The application will close on July 29 at 5 p.m. Families who have applied to the WCPSS Virtual Academy and would like to withdraw or change their application, should contact Mrs. Forman via email at email@example.com. (This includes no longer wanting to be in the VA, or switching from just the fall semester or all year to the other option.) All changes must be made by 5pm Wednesday.)
For those families who already registered in the first application window, please do not submit a new form. We will send confirmation letters/emails to all VA students after the window closes this week.
Here is a copy of the updated WES Family FAQ questions that we have compiled.
WCPSS Technology Survey due 7/29
We need all families with a student in K-12 to complete this survey for each student, regardless of your school, whether you have applied to the Virtual Academy, whether you have a device or whether you need a device. (Pre-K students’ technology will be addressed separately by the Office of Early Learning.) This short survey will help us better understand the needs of our students and make sure that we are able to meet those needs.
WES Updates and Information for the New School Year
The first two weeks of the school year beginning August 17th will now be focused on orientation, technology skills and setup, Meet the Teacher Events, Student Material Pickups and Back to School Virtual Events. Meet the teacher will be held during the second week of school allowing for us to make sure all students are able to access the Internet and will not miss important school and classroom rules and procedures. Events will be held for students and parents by grade level and for different programs such as ESL students, Students with IEPs, and with interpreters available. More information will be shared next week.
- Office staff and administration are working both in school and virtually all summer long. Questions can be sent via email or you can call the front desk at 919-380-6988. Please leave a message and someone will return your call as soon as possible.
