Explorer Express Summer Update for 7/10/20

Good Afternoon Explorer Families!

Welcome To the 2020-2021 School Year

First off, let me welcome all of our kindergarten and new student families to our Explorer Community.  While 2020 has been a year full of unprecedented changes, we want you to know that we are still preparing for the 2020-2021 school year.  Each year, we send information to families via email and text messages through our SchoolMessenger application.  These messages can also be located on our website, on Facebook and on Twitter.  Directions for opting into the School Messenger text messages can be found here.

Message from Mr. Chadwick, Principal

As the principal and father of 4 children, I, like many of our families, am still navigating the difficult situations that a worldwide pandemic has brought to our day to day lives.  This includes our Wake County community, our own homes, and our schools. While we still have many unaswered questions, I wanted to take the time to share where families can continue to receive the most up to date information about next school year.

Returning to School for 2020-2021 Information

WCPSS and Weatherstone Elementary School are committed to providing the best academic experiences for your children in a safe and healthy environment, based on the guidance we receive from educational, health and government organizations. To that end, WCPSS has announced the creation of the Virtual Academy, a completely online option, and the implementation of Blended Instruction, also known as Plan B (out of the three required state options), to start the school year on August 17th

WCPSS has posted resources about the Virtual Academy and the Return to Campus Website and the Return to Campus Guidelines online.  Please note that as guidance and restrictions continue to be updated, WCPSS and Weatherstone Elementary, will update our policies and procedures as well.  This may include a change from Plan B to Plan A or C as data and infection rates change within the state.  That being said, the Virtual Academy will be offered in addition to the Plans A, B or C. Enrollment for the WCPSS Virtual Academy is open from July 10th-20th.

Livestream Information Sessions

To aid families with questions about how WES will be implementing the Virtual Academy and Plan B, we will be hosting a Virtual Academy Livestream on Google Meet On Monday, July 13th at 4pm.  During the event, we will have a Google Form available to capture families' questions and answer what we can at this time.

On Monday, July 20th at 12:30pm, we will host a New to Weatherstone Livestream, for all families new to WES and for Rising Kindergarten Families.  The meeting will begin with general information and then transition to Kindergarten specific information towards the end.

While we do not know all of the logistics and answers at this time we will do our best to support families as they make decisions and plan for the Return to School in August.
