End of Grade/Course Testing

Virtual Academy students will need to charge their WCPSS Chromebooks prior to testing and bring in their WCPSS Chromebooks/chargers each day of their assigned test. Students staying for the remainder of the school day will be assigned asynchronous work that will need to be completed from their teachers. Bus requests have been processed and parents should have been notified of stops and routes. Afternoon bus requests will be given to students for the ride home.

All students will need to report to school between 6:50-7:30 (as usual) on their assigned testing days. It is crucial that students are not late as we begin testing ASAP! Please send in your students well-rested! Free breakfast is provided to all students this year.

School Safety

Please know that WCPSS and WFMS take the security and safety of our students and staff as a top priority. In light of the tragic events that occurred in Uvalde, Texas this past week, we wanted to share a few information items with you.

  • All visitors to WFMS must use the main entrance to access our building where our receptionist screens through the communication phone outside.
  • Teachers were asked to review lockdown procedures with students on Thursday and Friday to ensure students understand the protocols in place, should we ever need to enter a lockdown.
  • We have a full-time, school resource officer with the Wake County Sheriff’s Office on our campus each day.  The officer walks our building consistently throughout the day and is visible to our students and staff.  We have also had an increase of police presence last week from the Sheriff’s Office and Wake Forest PD as a sign of proactive support of our school community, for which we are grateful.
  • Please notify the school immediately  if your child expresses any alarming information to you from conversation or they have seen through their social media.

We appreciate your support and efforts to help us keep WFMS safe each day.

Registration/Verification Forms

Verification forms for student registration of electives will be sent home later this week.  Please review carefully.  These only need to be returned if you have changes that need to be made.

Due to a decrease in student enrollment for next school year, we do not anticipate being able to offer Theater/Dramatics for the upcoming school year at this time.  If your student has selected Introduction to Theater, Dramatics, or Advanced Dramatics for next school year, please list 1-2 additional electives on the verification form that they would be interested in participating in.

Vapes

We have recently noticed an increase in the number of students reported to have and having vapes on campus.  Please speak with your student regarding the harmfulness of vapes to their well-being.  Vapes are outlined as a prohibited item on any WCPSS property in the Student Code of Conduct, as mentioned below.

I-8 Tobacco, Vaporizers, and Nicotine Products: Student health and well-being is of the highest priority.  For this reason, no student shall violate the Board’s “Use of Tobacco and Nicotine Products” policy. Students are specifically advised that this policy prohibits vaporizers and liquids used in vaporizers even if they do not contain tobacco or nicotine.

Students who are found to have these items on campus or use them are subject to school consequences and repeated violation could result in suspension.

Please also speak with your child about not using a vape that someone may offer them.  Vapes are able to now contain prohibited substances which may have negative interactions with a student’s body resulting in the need to contact EMS for your student for medical attention. If the substance in the vape is prohibited, students are subject to suspension under the policy outlined as III-1 Narcotics, Alcoholic Beverages, Controlled Substances, Chemicals, and Drug Paraphernalia.  Thank you for your attention and support for the health and safety of our students.

Apply for Free & Reduced-Price Meals for the 2022-23 School Year

All students currently receive free school meals supported by federal funding due to the pandemic.  This funding is set to end on June 30, 2022.  In order to receive free or reduced-price meals for the 22-23 school year, families must submit a meal benefits application. Please allow 10 days for processing of the application.

For every student who turns in the free and reduced meals application and qualifies, the school also receives federal funds that benefit the students and teachers at the school.

WFMS needs you to complete a 2022-2023 meal benefits application so our school can be eligible for additional funding in the next school year.  If you have not completed a free or reduced-price meal application and think your child may be eligible, pick up an application at WFMS or apply online.  Paper applications may also be requested by calling 919-588-3535 or 919-856-2920 or emailing cnsmealbenefits@wcpss.net.

Below is information regarding meal prices in the 2022-23 school year.

2022-23 meal prices

  • K-5 Breakfast $1.50 and lunch $3.00
  • 6-12 Breakfast $1.75 and lunch $3.25

8th Grade End-of-Year Celebration

In lieu of a ceremony, 8th grade students will be participating in a Field Day on Wednesday, June 8th.  At this time, we plan to have a variety of activities including 3 v 3 basketball, volleyball, and soccer, kickball, and traditional field day challenges such as a sack race - to name a few.  We will also have music playing with a dance area as well as a selfie station with props.  This will be a three hour event during the school day.  Lunch will be pizza and donated sides and drinks.  We are in need of coolers, tailgating tents, and volunteers.  THIS is the link to the Sign-up Genius if you would like to contribute.  Parents may only attend this event as a volunteer willing to help monitor an activity.  At the end of the day, students will receive their Certificate of Completion for 8th grade.  Food and drink donations will go through homeroom content areas and are listed below:

Social Studies:  chips (small individual bags)

Math - canned soda (no glass)

ELA - packaged cookies

Science - bottled water

We have about 45o students to serve.  Water will be the biggest need throughout the entire day.  Virtual Academy students are welcome to attend. Please check the Family Message and Talking Points for updates and reminders.

2022-23 Student Intent

As we begin preparations for the 22-23 school year, we need the help of our WFMS families.  We recognize the summer months are often transition times for families who are relocating and may be changing schools.  If you know your student will not be attending WFMS next year, please take a moment to visit the bit.ly below and share the information for your student.  If you have questions, feel free to reach out to Mrs. Hughes (vhughes@wcpss.net) or Mrs. Harmon (aharmon@wcpss.net).
