May 22nd WFMS Family Message
8th Grade End-of-Year Celebration
In lieu of a ceremony, 8th grade students will be participating in a Field Day on Wednesday, June 8th. At this time, we plan to have a variety of activities including 3 v 3 basketball, volleyball, and soccer, kickball, and traditional field day challenges such as a sack race - to name a few. We will also have music playing with a dance area as well as a selfie station with props. This will be a three hour event during the school day. Lunch will be pizza and donated sides and drinks. We are in need of coolers, tailgating tents, and volunteers. THIS is the link to the Sign-up Genius if you would like to contribute. Parents may only attend this event as a volunteer willing to help monitor an activity. At the end of the day, students will receive their Certificate of Completion for 8th grade. Food and drink donations will go through homeroom content areas and are listed below:
Social Studies: chips (small individual bags)
Math - canned soda (no glass)
ELA - packaged cookies
Science - bottled water
We have about 45o students to serve. Water will be the biggest need throughout the entire day. Virtual Academy students are welcome to attend. Please check the Family Message and Talking Points for updates and reminders.
The last day VA teachers will provide direct instruction will be on Thursday, May 26th. Beginning on Friday, May 27th, coursework will be posted for students to access asynchronously. Some teachers may post to students for synchronous activities or wrap up time, however these will not be required once testing begins and attendance will be based on completion of the asynchronous course work. This will support the testing schedules that are in place. Please see VA class posts for more information.
End of Grade/Course Testing
Students in the building will be turning in their WCPSS Chromebooks and chargers Wednesday, May 25th to their homeroom teacher in order to prepare for online end of grade/course testing. WCPSS Chromebooks/chargers will be returned the week of June 6th after students have completed all of their required end of grade/course tests.
Virtual Academy students will need to bring in their WCPSS Chromebooks/chargers each day of their assigned test. Students staying for the remainder of the school day will be assigned asynchronous work that will need to be completed from their teachers.
All students will need to report to school between 6:50-7:30 (as usual) on their assigned testing days. It is crucial that students are not late.
All students will follow this testing schedule:
Tuesday, May 31st
- 8th Grade Science EOG
Thursday, June 2nd
- 6th Grade Reading EOG
- 7th and 8th Grade Math EOG/EOC
Friday, June 3rd
- 6th Grade Math EOG
- 7th and 8th Grade Reading EOG
2022-23 Student Intent
As we begin preparations for the 22-23 school year, we need the help of our WFMS families. We recognize the summer months are often transition times for families who are relocating and may be changing schools. If you know your student will not be attending WFMS next year, please take a moment to visit the bit.ly below and share the information for your student. If you have questions, feel free to reach out to Mrs. Hughes (email@example.com) or Mrs. Harmon (firstname.lastname@example.org).

Wake Forest Entrepreneurs Academy | Wake Forest Camber Foundation
The Wake Forest Entrepreneurs Academy (WFEA) trains students on every aspect of entrepreneurship. Skills include creativity; teamwork; public speaking; idea generation; opportunity analysis; market research; design thinking; prototyping; business modeling; and pitching.
Two cohorts, one for rising 7th-9th graders and one for rising 10th-12th graders, will make up the sessions. Upon completion of the Academy, students will be invited to make pitches to a panel of judges who will decide which ideas will be awarded seed money. Our Platinum Sponsor, Loading Dock Wake Forest, will host the academy at their location in Downtown Wake Forest.
This program is free to apply. Applicants will be chosen based on an application and interview process.
