April 7th WFMS Family Message

Good afternoon WFMS Families,

We are thrilled to welcome over 600 students back to the building tomorrow for face-to-face instruction under Plan A and to re-engage with our Virtual Academy students for the 4th quarter.

Any student who is listed in PowerSchool as A, B, or C should plan to return to school tomorrow, April 8th.  These codes designate your student is on PLAN A for face-to-face instruction.  Students who are listed with a D in PowerSchool are considered Virtual Academy.

Please remind your students about the importance of wearing their masks, maintaining social distancing, and washing their hands.  While school may not look the same as it has in the past, tomorrow represents another step in the direction of returning to what we knew before COVID over a year ago.

Updated Attendance Guidelines Under Plan A

Please review Board Policy 4400 regarding attendance.  Students returning to school under Plan A are expected to be in attendance for in-person learning and may not be able to access classes remotely if they are absent, unless there is a COVID related quarantine.  If your student is absent for a reason outlined in the link below, they should submit an absence note so their absence can be recorded appropriately and they will work with their classroom teacher to make-up missed assignments.

Student schedules are now available for view in PowerSchool.  Students will also receive a copy of their schedule in homeroom tomorrow when they arrive to the school.  Virtual Academy students should check PowerSchool as well in the event some changes were needed in their schedules as staff were moved.

Electives and A/B Day

Tomorrow is an “A” day elective and Friday is a “B” day elective.

Virtual Academy Meet Codes

Teachers will share Google Meet codes with VA students only via Google Classroom and they will be located in a different place.  These codes will no longer be visible in the top banner of Google Classroom for everyone to access due to the updated attendance guidelines.

Students eating breakfast in the morning should report immediately to the cafeteria upon arrival to school.  Students will be seated socially distanced and will need to eat their food without talking while their face covering is removed.  Once they have finished eating, they will be asked to place their face covering on, throw trash away, and exit the cafeteria to their homeroom.

In order to accommodate social distancing in our cafeteria, we will have two lunches (25 minutes each) for each grade-level.  This is a shift from a single 45-minute “lunch and learn” earlier in the year when our number of in-person students was lower.  During the 25 minutes the student is in the cafeteria for lunch, they will have assigned seating and will not be able to talk while face coverings are removed.  Students will not be allowed to access their devices while at lunch in the cafeteria. They will have 25 minutes directly before or directly after lunch to provide socialization time in their classroom before transitioning to their next class.

Carpool (Arrive and Dismissal)

Please plan accordingly for morning carpool as we expect a higher number of students in carpool starting this week.  Families should enter at the WFMS main entrance and follow the assigned traffic pattern.  Pull as far up to the main entrance as you can and once your car has stopped, follow directions from staff to have your student exit the car.  Entrances will be open at the front, middle, and by the gym for carpool students to enter the building since health screenings will no longer be conducted.  Your assistance in having your child exit your car when directed by staff will help us keep traffic flowing smoothly.  Families should not enter the bus lot to drop-off their student.  If you do this, you will be directed to return to Main Street to enter the main entrance for carpool.

For dismissal, please give your child’s name to staff when requested and/or have your carpool tag visible in your window.

Health Screenings

Health screenings are no longer required as students enter the building under Plan A.  Families should conduct a health screening and temperature check at home before your student leaves for school. If they are experiencing symptoms or have a fever, please keep them home and contact Dr. Bradford through the main office or email and someone will follow-up with you.

Healthful Living/PE

Please be sure to wear appropriate sneakers/tennis shoes each day for Healthful Living as students will be participating in activities each day.  Students will not be allowed to access the locker rooms and no dressing out is required.

Spring sports will restart on Monday, April 12.   There are NO sports this week after school, so please plan transportation for your student at 2:15.

All students that have turned their paperwork into Mrs. Lassiter can attend each day. Please have your student check their email.  If they didn't receive a message from Mrs. Lassiter before Spring Break, they are not permitted to attend. Spring sports will run from April 12- April 30. Mrs. Lassiter IS NOT accepting anymore paperwork for spring sports but will accept forms for winter sports (girls/boys basketball and cheerleading) until Thursday, April 29th.

If you have questions, please email Mrs. Lassiter at

Water Bottles

Water fountains will still be used only with cups and water bottles.  Students should be their own water bottle to school each day.  If they do not have one, they will be given a disposable cup.
