Mensaje familiar de WFMS del 15 de febrero

Good afternoon WFMS Families,

Below are updates and announcements for the week of 2/15 - 2/19.

Return to In-Person Learning on Wednesday, February 17th

Students on Cohort 2/B will return to in-person learning for their rotation this Wednesday, February 17th.  All other students will continue to access remote learning.  Dates for in-person learning for each cohort to return are listed below.    Families received an email on Friday, 12th confirming your student’s cohort assignment.

Cohort 2/B (February 17 - 19)

Cohort 3/C (February 22 - 26; Asynchronous Day - February 24th)

Cohort 1/A (March 1 - 5)

February 15th and 16th

Students are not required to access classes on Monday, February 15th and 16th, as these are calendar out and teacher workdays for students.  Classes will resume on February 17th for students.

Return to In-Person Learning

As students prepare for a return to in-person learning this week, families should review information in the Return to School Guide for WFMS.  This will give you an overview of protocols and safety measures students will need to follow while in the building.  Staff will review these protocols with students on the day of their return.

Students must wear face coverings at all times and are encouraged to bring a water bottle, as they will not be able to use water fountains in the same manner they have in past years.  In addition, a pair of inexpensive headphones will be beneficial for your child.  Please do not allow them to bring Beats or AirPods as we are not responsible for any loss which may occur.

There will be some revisions to our breakfast and lunch times, as outlined in the Eating and Drinking Guidance shared by the district in the February 4th Family Message.  Students will sit 6-feet apart, facing the same direction and will not be allowed to socialize while consuming their food with their face coverings off.  Students will wait until all other students have been seated before being cued by staff to remove their face coverings and then provided 20 minutes to eat their lunch, at which time, they will put on their face covering and provided time to talk with their friends who are sitting nearby.  Students will maintain proper social distancing throughout the entire lunch period.  All specifics for this will be reviewed with students prior to their lunchtime on Wednesday.

Please keep your child home if they are experiencing any symptoms outlined in the information on the WCPSS website.

Carpool

Parents of students who plan to ride carpool should follow the specific guidelines and directions from staff when arriving on campus.  Please allow enough time for response to the health screening questions and temperature check.  WFMS staff will not begin health screenings until 7:00am.  This means no student will be allowed out of their car before 7:00am.  Instruction begins at 7:30am each day, so students need to be in the building in their classes by that time.  Please do not wait until 7:30am to drop your student off or they may be late to the start of their class.  A student will be allowed to exit the car once they have passed the health screening.  They will then enter the school building through the main entrance.  If the temperature is high on the first attempt, you will be directed to pull off and wait 5 minutes before another temperature reading is taken.  Given the current cold weather, parents are encouraged to turn their heaters off and roll down windows as they enter the campus to mitigate the possibility of a false temperature reading. Please know we will continually review our process for traffic flow with the new protocols and make adjustments, as needed, which may include only allowing a right-turn out of the parking lot.   No student should be dropped off or at the entrance of the bus entrance.

For afternoon carpool, please do not line-up in the carpool prior to 1:45pm.  We must leave a lane open for fire and emergency responders at all times.  Afternoon carpool follows the same flow of traffic as morning carpool when entering the campus by going to the stadium area and back up.  Staff will take your name as you arrive on-campus, and students will be dismissed a few at a time to ensure we maintain social distancing in the hallways.

Bus Transportation & Attestation Form

Parents of students who plan to ride the bus this school year MUST submit a health attestation form. This form states that you and your child will abide by all health and safety protocols for bus ridership. Students are not permitted to ride the bus until this form has been submitted. Parents will need to submit a form for all of their children who plan to ride the bus during the 2020-21 school year. The form is available online in English and Spanish at www.wcpss.net/busform.  Students will be screened once they arrive on-campus before entering the building, in addition to your screening at home.

Meal Benefits Applications

Families interested in Meal Benefits should submit applications by Friday, Feb. 26.  More information can be found at this link.

CPR Compressions Assessment for 8th Grade Students

Healthful Living staff will be working with 8th grade students to complete the graduation requirement for CPR compressions over the next few weeks during in-person Health classes with Mr. Conyers, Mrs. Carlyle, and Mr. Cheek.  Staff will take all precautions and safety measures in sanitizing and practicing social distancing during this assessment.  Students need only to complete the compressions portion of CPR.  Any student who wishes to opt-out of this at this time may choose to do so, but the requirement will need to be completed in high school at a later date.  Students in Virtual Academy who wish to complete this assessment may sign-up for a time on February 24th or March 10th from 7am - 5pm at the link below.  Students coming in on the remote learning days in the link will be required to complete a health screening when they arrive on-campus.  If you have questions, please email Mrs. Carlyle (acarlyle@wcpss.net).
