Visite el enlace a continuación para acceder al mensaje familiar de WFMS de esta semana en Español. Gracias.
Good afternoon WFMS Families,
Thank you for your support of our students returning to class this past week in the remote setting. We had a successful week of instruction and our staff was excited to see their students again. We hope you will come out to Papa Murphy’s this Thursday evening to support our Spirit Night. More information is outlined in this email below.
Please remember all students (Plan B and Virtual Academy) in WCPSS will continue in remote learning January 11th - 15th. No students will be on-campus until January 20th for the start of the second semester. Students will follow the remote learning schedule linked here each day. Classes will be synchronous except for this Wednesday, January 13th which was previously designated as an asynchronous day. This means students should be logging in to their Google Meet sessions for instruction each day. All teachers will be available for office hours to students each day between 2pm-3pm through the end of the 1st semester (January 15th). If your child needs to meet outside of this time, please have them reach out to their teacher to schedule.
Below are updates and announcements for the week of 1/11 - 1/15.
2nd Semester Material Distribution
Please mark your calendar for material distribution on Tuesday, January 19th from 7:30am - 3:00pm. More information will be sent out regarding the pickup process next week.
2nd Semester Schedule Changes & Cohorts
We are working to finalized 2nd semester schedules. While you will be able to see newly input classes in PowerSchool, they are constantly changing and we ask that you disregard additional course information until a message is shared with families that schedules have been finalized closer to the start of the 2nd semester. We are sharing updated cohort information with families later this week. If you have any questions, please contact Amy Harmon (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Emily Abbott (email@example.com).
Information regarding middle school athletics, as outlined at the January 5th WCPSS Board Meeting can be found here. Wake Forest Middle School will be sharing a survey next week to collect information on student-athlete interests to finalize our plan.
Families can volunteer for the Athletics Booster Club or ask questions related to athletics by emailing our Athletics Director, Mrs. Tai Lassiter (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Healthful Living - CPR Compressions Requirement
The Healthful Living Department would like to inform all 8th grade families that our next health unit will have a component that the students will need to be assessed in CPR compressions on a mannequin. This requirement is in the WCPSS curriculum and also a graduation requirement for all students, as outlined in state law. NCDPI exempted students last year but will not be allowing students to be exempted this year. The Healthful Living Department has two dates for scheduling students to come in to be assessed. If your student is Face to Face we will be assessing them when they are in the building during their cohort. If you have a student that is Virtual Academy the two dates for you to sign up are Feb 3th and Feb 24th. The students will be entering through the gym lobby building, (parents can wait in their cars), students will be health screened prior to entering and complete the assessment.
We recognize concerns some parents may have given the current state of the virus and students who feel uncomfortable coming into the building for this will receive an opportunity in future years to complete the requirement. Our Healthful Living teachers will follow all distancing and safety protocols during the assessment and proper sanitation in between usage of the mannequins.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email our department chair, Amy Carlyle at email@example.com.
Transportation Attestation Form
If your child will be returning to in-person learning on January 20th for the 2nd semester and riding school transportation, they must have an attestation form on file. Please click here to complete the attestation form regarding your agreement to complete the health screening with your child each morning before they ride the bus. Without this form, students will not be allowed to ride the bus to or from school.
As we enter 2021 the PTSA is in need of your support. We are currently in need of filling a couple more leadership roles on the PTSA Board, one being our treasurer position, which is important in supporting the financial support PTSA is able to provide the students and staff of WFMS. If you are willing to serve in this role, in the interim or long-term, please reach out to our PTSA President, Jeannie Neurohr at firstname.lastname@example.org. We greatly appreciate your consideration in assisting. More information will be coming soon regarding upcoming meetings.
Papa Murphy’s Spirit Night
Our next spirit night at Papa Murphy’s is this Thursday, January 14th. Please invite family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers to support our school on this night. 25% of all sales on January 14th will be donated back to our school. When purchasing pizza from Papa Murphy’s on other dates, we encourage you to order online and use the code LOVE. By doing so, WFMS will receive a percentage of your purchase as a donation to our school. Please share this information with friends and family who live or work in the Wake Forest area and let them know they can support our school this way at the Retail Drive Papa Murphy’s.
