Good afternoon WFMS Families,
Welcome back! 2021 has arrived. Happy New Year to our WFMS families and students. We trust you each had a safe and enjoyable winter break.
ALL students (Plan B and Virtual Academy) in WCPSS will participate in remote learning from January 4th - 15th. No students will be on-campus until January 20th at the start of the second semester. Students will follow the remote learning schedule linked here each day. Classes will be synchronous except for January 6th and 13th which are designated as asynchronous days. This means students should be logging in to their Google Meet sessions for instruction each day. On January 6th and 13th only, students should login to Google Classroom and complete any activity posted by the teacher for that day to log their attendance.
Teachers and other staff will be available via Talking Points and email on January 4th if you have any questions.
Below are updates and announcements from WFMS for the week of 1/4 - 1/8.
Welcome New WFMS Staff
We would like to welcome Mrs. Jennifer Gardiner to the WFMS family. Mrs. Gardiner will be a new 6th grade social studies teacher, taking over classes for Mr. Mike Kelly, who retired on December 21st.
2nd Semester Schedule Changes & Cohorts
Over the next few weeks we will be working on 2nd semester schedules. While you will be able to see newly input classes in PowerSchool, they are constantly changing and we ask that you disregard additional course information until a message is shared with families that schedules have been finalized closer to the start of the 2nd semester. We also intend to share cohort information with families the week of January 11th. If you have any questions, please contact Amy Harmon (email@example.com) or Emily Abbott (firstname.lastname@example.org).
2021-22 Student Assignment Sheets
The Office of Student Assignment has released school assignments for the 2021-2022 school year. If you have a Parent Portal set up for your child(ren), the school assignment is posted there. If a Parent Portal has not been set up, Student Assignment will be mailing the 2021-2022 school assignments to the address we have in PowerSchool. If you have questions or would like to set up a Parent Portal account, please email Emily Abbott (email@example.com).
The status of middle school athletics is uncertain for the 20-21 school year, but there are a few ways to support us. Families can volunteer for the Athletics Booster Club by emailing our Athletics Director, Mrs. Tai Lassiter (firstname.lastname@example.org). We have also set-up a Spirit Wear Website for students and families to order WFMS gear. Please visit the link below if you are interested in ordering. Any questions related to athletics can be emailed to Mrs. Lassiter. Once we have final details on athletics for the 20-21 school year, we will share those with our families.
Papa Murphy’s Spirit Night
Our next spirit night at Papa Murphy’s is on January 14th. Please invite family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers to support our school on this night. 25% of all sales on January 14th will be donated back to our school. When purchasing pizza from Papa Murphy’s on other dates, we encourage to order online and use the code LOVE. By doing so, WFMS will receive a percentage of your purchase as a donation to our school. Please share this information with friends and family who live or work in the Wake Forest area and let them know they can support our school this way at the Retail Drive Papa Murphy’s.
