Good afternoon WFMS Families,
Happy Sunday to each of you. This will be our final weekly family message for the 2020 calendar year. And, wow what a year it has been! The staff at WFMS would like to wish our students and families a safe and happy winter break.
This week Cohort 1/A will participate in face-to-face learning, while Cohorts 2/B and 3/C will participate in remote learning. This Wednesday, December 16th is a remote learning day for ALL WCPSS students. No students will be on-campus.
Below are updates and announcements from WFMS for the week of 12/14 - 12/18.
Remote Learning Day - 12/16/2020
Wednesday, December 16th is a remote learning day for all students. Teachers will post the activities for students in their google classrooms and students should log in to complete these activities and attendance for each class throughout the day.
2nd Semester Elective Selection
All students received an email regarding 2nd semester elective selection. Please ask your child if they have completed the survey to ensure that they are scheduled for an elective of their choice next semester! Elective course descriptions and grade level surveys are linked below. Contact your student’s grade level counselor with questions.
2nd Semester Enrollment (Virtual Academy & Plan B)
All families should have received a 2nd Semester enrollment confirmation email indicating your student’s enrollment status for next semester (Virtual Academy or Plan B). We are in the process of making necessary cohort assignments and schedule changes and will continue to send out more information in the coming weeks. If you have questions about your student’s enrollment status for next semester, please contact Amy Harmon at firstname.lastname@example.org or Emily Abbott at email@example.com.
Winter Break Campus Closing
The WFMS campus will be closed from Monday, December 21st - Sunday, January 3rd. Staff will return to the building on Monday, January 4th, along with Cohort 2/B. This means no one will be available to answer phones on-campus and staff may not be accessing email. Any correspondence during this time will be answered when staff return to the building.
Fall Picture dates have been scheduled. Please review the dates listed below and the Fall Picture Information Flyer for more information. If you don’t have a flier to review packages, please visit https://my.lifetouch.com/mylifetouch/#/ and use the ID Code EVT7DN2NX to review package options. Money may be sent in with students to cover the package of your choice. The dates are as follows:
Monday, December 14th for Cohort A
Virtual Academy students will be able to make an appointment for their pictures to be taken on Wednesday, December 16th. The link to do this can be found on the WFMS Website or by clicking HERE. Please plan to arrive at school about 10 minutes before your scheduled picture time on 12/16. When you arrive at WFMS for pictures, only students having pictures taken may enter the building. There will be a staff member at the door to complete health screenings. Students must have on a mask to enter the building. Once the screening is complete, students will go to the auditorium for their pictures then exit through the main entrance of the school. Parents may wait in the carpool line until your student is finished. This will be a one lane wait so that when it is time for you to leave, you may go around parked cars using the outside lane. Ideally, pictures from the time of exiting the car to completion should be less than 10 minutes.
Please contact Mrs. Clemens if you have any questions (firstname.lastname@example.org).
2021-22 Student Assignment Sheets
The Office of Student Assignment has released school assignments for the 2021-2022 school year. For Cohort A students, they will receive their assignment sheets through their homeroom class on Monday, December 14th. For other students (Cohort B, C, and all virtual students) – if you have a Parent Portal set up for your child(ren), the school assignment is posted there. If a Parent Portal has not been set up, Student Assignment will be mailing the 2021-2022 school assignments to the address we have in PowerSchool. If you have questions or would like to set up a Parent Portal account, please email email@example.com.
Targeted Support & Improvement (TSI) School Notification
As a part of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), schools are required to notify families of specific designations under the Act. Information regarding Wake Forest Middle School’s designation can be found by clicking here.
The status of middle school athletics is still uncertain for the 20-21 school year, but there are a few ways to support us. Families can volunteer for the Athletics Booster Club by emailing our Athletics Director, Mrs. Tai Lassiter (firstname.lastname@example.org). We have also set-up a Spirit Wear Website for students and families to order WFMS gear. Please visit the link below if you are interested in ordering. Any questions related to athletics can be emailed to Mrs. Lassiter.
Papa Murphy’s Spirit Night
Thank you for your support of our Spirit Night last Thursday evening. If you are planning to order pizza from Papa Murphy’s over the winter break, we encourage you to use the information below and order online with the code LOVE so WFMS will receive a percentage of your purchase as a donation to our school. Please share this information with friends and family who live or work in the Wake Forest area and let them know they can support our school this way at the Retail Drive Papa Murphy’s.
