April 17th Parent Message - COVID-19 Updates

Good afternoon WFMS Families,

We have made it through our first week of Phase 2 of Remote Learning and overall it has been a successful week for our students, parents, and faculty.  We recognized throughout this process that we would need to maintain grace and flexibility as we all navigate these “new waters” together.  I greatly appreciate the feedback from all of our stakeholders over the past week in various ways in helping us to continually improve.  Below are a couple of updates.

WFMS Remote Learning “One-Stop Shop”

We heard from many parents, students, and staff the information for Remote Learning was confusing to some and it caused anxiety as students were trying to navigate.  For this purpose, we have created an area on our website with all things related to COVID-19 and Remote Learning.  This page contains Principal Messages, a FAQ, Course and Contact Info (with office hours by grade-level and electives – consider this the starting point for your child), and the attendance form for students.  There is a banner link at the top of our school website and the page can be accessed by using the link below.

Device Deployment

Our devices will be arriving today.  Staff will begin reaching out to families on Friday and Monday with information about pick-up times/date.  This individual communication will only be to families who have alerted us regarding the need for a device prior to today through our google form, teacher contact, or through communication with our counselors or administrators.  Due to the high number of requests, we will only be able to allot one device per family at this time.  Families with multiple students in the household will need to make a plan for device usage to allow their children to complete assignments.

We do not have Wi-Fi Hotspots yet and will be in touch individually with the families who need those as soon as they arrive.

Welcome Mr. Katona Thomas

We are pleased to welcome and announce to our community, our new 7th grade Assistant Principal, Mr. Katona Thomas.  He is excited to be joining the WFMS family and is available to support 7th grade in anyway possible.

Virtual Arts Day

Since we can’t be together in person right now, the WFMS Arts Department is taking our Spring arts event online instead! All Wake Forest Middle School students are invited to submit photos, videos, and digital files showcasing their unique art – drawings, paintings, singing, playing an instrument, dancing, dramatic performances, etc. – all art forms are welcome! Submissions will be collected by the Arts Booster from now until April 24th and entries that meet the required criteria will be showcased on the Arts Booster Instagram account during Virtual Arts Day on Saturday, May 6th. Entries MUST be submitted from a student’s WCPSS email address and MUST follow the entry rules established by the school. Rules, links to submission forms, and submission steps can be found at Click on “Virtual Arts Day!” for all the details. Also, be sure to follow the Arts Booster’s Instagram account (@wfmsarts) for updates and announcements – and to be a part of the action on May 6th. We’re excited to see all your creative submissions and look forward to virtually celebrating the arts with our amazing students!
