April 11th Parent Message - Remote Learning Updates
Good afternoon Wake Forest Middle School Families,
If you would like to view the message shared on Thursday, you may do so at www.tinyurl.com/WFMSApril9MSG. Many of the announcements included in this message are similar to those from the message, but we wanted to reach out again in the event that some families did not receive the previous message.
We have been asked by multiple parents, “has my child missed anything?” The answer to that question is “no.” WCPSS provided optional and supplemental resources over the past few weeks for students to access. This is still available to support your student at remotelearning.wcpss.net, as well. New instruction officially begins in the remote learning setting this Monday.
Over the past two weeks, staff has been reaching out to families to check-in, so hopefully you have heard from some, if not all, of your child’s teachers.
Students should be accessing each of their classes (6 in total) through Google Classroom or Google Teacher Website. This information is available on the Wake Forest Middle School website, under our school and faculty directory. Each teacher is listed under their respective department.
Students should be participating in about 4-5 hours of instruction each week per class. This will be facilitated as synchronous and asynchronous instruction and may include videos, google hangout meetings, readings, activities, and assignments. These will vary from teacher to teacher.
Teachers will post office hours on their website and should be available at least one hour a day for further support for students.
Teachers will be providing feedback until May 15th at this time. We are unsure what grading will look like after that date, so it is important that students put forth their best efforts in their work, as we do not know what the end of the school year will look like at this time for grades K-11.
In order to accommodate the learning schedules and resources available to many of our families, students will be given ample opportunity to complete learning activities. During this time, we will use maximum flexibility in assignment submission. We have posted a suggested schedule for your student each day, which is linked here on the WFMS website. This is not a required schedule and families should discuss and decide the best way for their children to access learning and complete assignments during this time.
WCPSS is working hard to get devices and internet access to students with need. WFMS hopes to have the devices soon and we will reach out individually to families with more information at that time.
In addition to school based resources, the WCPSS Remote Learning Website contains learning resources in all content areas and can continue to be used as we move forward as another support for students. Students can always access DreamBox for additional math support and enhancement.
UNC-TV and the NC Department of Public Instruction have established a partnership that will support remote learning with content that will be accessible to students—especially those with limited or no internet access—at no charge.
Each weekday, appropriate programming for grades 6-8 is available on UNC-TV's North Carolina Channel from 8am – 1pm. These educational program blocks are available on the North Carolina Channel, available statewide for free over-the-air, through cable providers and streamed online.
We will continue to share more information regarding other resources for families to access and utilize for student learning as we receive them.
If you have questions over the coming weeks, you can reach out to your teachers, grade-level counselor, or administrator. Contact information for administrators and counselors is listed below. If you are in need of a virtual meeting, these can be scheduled, as well.
