August 16th Parent Message
I can hardly believe we are just over a week away from our students arriving to kick-off the 2019-2020 school year at Wake Forest Middle School. We are anticipating great things and looking forward to meeting our newest Cougar family members and welcoming back those returning to us. I wanted to pass along a few items of interest and encourage you to attend our Cougar Camp on Thursday, August 22nd at the designated time for your student.
Cougar Camp for our rising sixth graders will be on Thursday, August 22nd.
6th Grade students with last names beginning with A-L should attend from 10:00am – 11:30am.
6th Grade students with last names beginning with M-Z should attend from 1:00pm – 2:30pm.
“Meet the Teacher” will be hosted for all 7th/8th grade students from 4:00pm – 5:00pm
Students will be able to pick-up schedules, visit classrooms, meet teachers, counselors, and administration, get acquainted with other 6th graders, and participate in activities to make the transition to middle school as seamless as possible. Parents should plan to attend in order to meet teachers, counselors, and administration, sign-up for PowerSchool access, discuss transportation, join the PTSA, Athletics, and Arts Boosters, and much more.
7th and 8th graders are encouraged to attend for an informal open house from 4:00pm – 5:00pm. Homeroom lists will be posted at various places in the building for students and parents to see where they should start their visit. Students will be able to pick-up paperwork for the start of the school year and their schedules in their homeroom classes. Students will then be able to walk the building and find their classrooms and introduce themselves briefly to teachers and other staff. Tables will be set-up for parents to sign-up for PowerSchool (if needed), access additional Transportation information beyond what was provided in the homeroom packet, purchase student agendas, and sign-up for PTSA, Athletics, and Arts Boosters.
A formal “Open House” event will occur on September 19th from 5:00pm – 7:00pm.
7th and 8th grade students are eligible for middle school athletics. Information regarding the 2019-2020 Fall Season may be accessed on the WFMS Athletics website. All students wishing to try-out for any sport must meet eligibility requirements and submit a completed Athletic Participation Packet, which includes a current physical exam within the past year. This packet can be submitted during Cougar Camp/Open House.
If your child has a physical that doesn’t expire until later in the year, an athletic participation packet for this school year will still need to be completed and submitted.
Bus routes will be posted to the web and will be communicated to families via School Messenger on Friday, August 16, 2019. Please check to see if your child has transportation. If your child does not have transportation and needs it, please fill out the form at wcpss.net/busrider. You should receive a confirmation email with a case number. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Ralph Chew at firstname.lastname@example.org or 919-554-8440 ext. 22421.
Vendor routes will be posted when complete. If your child is assigned to a vendor for transportation, you will be contacted by the vendor.
7th Grade Student Immunizations
Parents, please check with your child's pediatrician to make sure they've received the required 7th grade shots, Tdap & meningococcal. Per NC State Statute, every 7th grader must provide proof of vaccination to the school. Documentation of immunizations must be provided to the school as soon as possible in order to avoid student exclusion from school.
If you have questions regarding your child’s status, please call the main office at 919-554-8440 and dial extension 22437 for our data manager, Michelle Beverly, or email email@example.com.
School Supply Lists
Supply lists are available on the Wake Forest Middle school website by clicking here.
In addition to the items listed on the supply list, all students will be required to purchase a school agenda from WFMS.
These are available for purchase online at https://osp.osmsinc.com/wakenc. Parents must create a username and password which can be re-set at any time. You must set-up your student’s profile with their ID number or your phone number. Locate our state, district, school category and school. Go to the activity, AG123-137, entitled SCHOOL AGENDA. Payment can be made with VISA or MasterCard. There will be a 4% processing fee, charged by OSP. Review and submit your payment. If everything goes through correctly, you will receive a "Thank You" confirmation order number. Please make a copy for your records and bring with you to Cougar Camp on Thursday, August 22nd to pick-up the agenda. If you have any difficulty or need assistance with the process, please contact the OSMS support team at firstname.lastname@example.org or 703-378-8299, ext. 204.
We will also have agendas for sale at Cougar Camp in a designated location for cash only.
