Good afternoon WFMS families,

Memorial Day Holiday

Memorial Day is this Monday, May 26th  and our school will be closed in observance of this national holiday. Memorial Day is a time for us to pause and reflect on the brave men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. We honor their courage, dedication, and ultimate sacrifice in protecting our nation.

Athletics

Thank you to our Athletics Boosters for organizing and hosting a wonderful celebration for all of our student-athletes on Friday, May 23rd. We were thrilled to see so many families come out in support, and we deeply appreciate our families and coaches for standing by these young men and women throughout the year. Hats off to everyone who played a part in honoring our student-athletes!

EOG Prep Spirit Week

As we head into our final week of instruction before End-of-Grade (EOG) testing begins (June 2nd–6th), we’re excited to announce EOG Spirit Week, culminating in a fun-filled Pep Rally featuring Radio DJ Brian Dawson on Thursday, May 29th! We encourage all students to show their school spirit by dressing up each day. Please keep in mind that the WCPSS Dress Code remains in effect—students not in compliance will be asked to change. Let’s finish strong and have some fun!

Cell Phone and SmartWatch EOG Policy

As we prepare for EOGs, we want to make you aware of the testing policies in place this year regarding electronic devices.  The North Carolina Department of Instruction has explicitly stated that "Cell phones are not permitted in testing sites unless there is a medical need.”  We encourage students to leave cell phones and other electronic devices such as iPads and Smart Watches at home during the week of testing. If those items are on campus, they will be collected and stored in a secure location outside of the classroom during testing to avoid the potential for a misadministration and need for retest. We want to get this information out to our families as soon as possible for planning purposes.

American Heart Association “Hoops for Hearts”

A Talking Points message was shared with families from our Healthful Living Department this past week. If you missed the message, please click HERE to review it. We encourage you to consider supporting this amazing cause, prioritizing heart health for your kids and family, and helping us reach our goal in this endeavor. Thank you.

8th grade Promotion Ceremony and End of Year Celebration

Our 8th grade Promotion Ceremony will be held on Tuesday, June 10th at 6pm. Due to our space limitations in the gym and fire code, each student will be given two tickets to the event. While we recognize this may impact some families, we are required to follow the fire code for our building capacity. Families may work amongst themselves to trade tickets if they choose, but the school will not have additional tickets to distribute.

We will provide a live stream for additional family members or friends to view the ceremony. The link will be shared on the date of the event. More information will be coming home with students soon.

A dance will be held on Thursday, June 5th from 5pm - 7pm. More details are coming soon about this event.

PTSA Updates

WFMS parents, click HERE for an important message about PTSA leadership for next school year. If we do not have parents volunteer to take PTSA leadership roles next year, many of our PTSA sponsored events and programs may not occur. Roles for large and small time commitments are available. Step up to make a real difference at your child's school!

Our 8th grade dance will be on Thursday, June 5 from 5-7pm in the gym. Students will get to enjoy an evening of dancing and fun with their friends! PTSA will provide pizza, chips, a cookie, and water for all students attending. We need parent volunteers to help chaperone and serve food. This will be the last opportunity to volunteer this year! Sign up to volunteer and/or donate snacks HERE.

Our final PTSA General Membership meeting will be on Tuesday, June 10 at 5:45, immediately before the 8th grade promotion ceremony in the gym. Join us to vote on our summer budget and next year's slate of nominees for the PTSA board.

Congratulations to School Psychologist - Deirdre Martyn

Congratulations to our School Psychologist, Deirdre Martyn who serves Forest Pines Elementary and Wake Forest Middle. She was recognized as the WCPSS School Psychologist of the Year last week. We want to thank her for all she does to support our students.

Staff of the Week

This week we recognize three staff members, Nicole Hanly (CTE), Emily Burger (Special Education), and Jenn Depo (Special Education). Our hats off to these three amazing educators for the work they do each day.

Ms. Hanly is a problem-solver and is always willing to collaborate and strategize for student success. She is a team player who is positive and always willing to help out.

Ms. Burger and Ms. Depo work with students in our special education department to help them understand the content and inform them about future opportunities in their lives. They are leaders in the classroom and strong advocates for our students.

Counselors’ Corner

As we near the end of the year, the counselor team would like to take a moment to express our endless gratitude to all the volunteers from families and the community who have spent time helping the students and staff of Wake Forest Middle School this year. An especially big THANK YOU to the PTSA officers and members who have spent thousands of hours here assisting in many different ways. Your time, effort, and commitment make a huge difference in our community.
