Mustang News for January 10, 2021
Thank you to all the families that joined us on Thursday for the Martin Family Coffee. It was wonderful to connect with you! The information from January’s Coffee will be posted on the Martin website for those who may have missed the coffee.
This is the last week of the 2nd quarter and we will be in remote learning through the end of the week. As a reminder, Wednesday will be an asynchronous learning day. Wednesday will also be our 3rd Quarter Supply Pick Up. You will find the details for the Supply Pick Up here. In addition to picking up materials, please make note of the items to return at Station 5. They do include ELA novels and other items.
In-Person Learning: The next three rotations for In-Person Learning are:
January 20-22 Cohort A/Cohort 1
January 25-29 Cohort B/Cohort 2
February 1-5 Cohort C/Cohort 3
Mustangs Unite: I am excited to announce that this week kicks off our next PTA Cultural Arts experience with visual artists Anna Podris and Keith Norval. Over the coming weeks, every Martin student will have the opportunity to participate in the creation of our “Mustangs Unite” mural. Students will learn about artists and paint techniques before creating their own piece of this mosaic painting. This Wednesday, at supply pick up, students will receive materials and instructions from the PTA and are encouraged to attend a live virtual session with our artists. Students will also receive a stamped envelope to mail back their completed artwork by January 20th. We’re excited to see this mural come together!
Cohort Assignments: All families in Plan A/B/C received their cohort assignments on Friday. For those who were in Plan A/B/C during the first semester remain in the same cohort. Those moving from VA to Plan A/B/C, a new cohort was assigned with the effort of keeping siblings in the same cohort and creating balanced groups. If you did not receive your in-person learning group, please contact the school to let us know.
Semester 2 Changes: Schedules for second semester have been updated and students should be able to see their second semester classes. As a reminder, if you moved between Virtual Academy and Plan A/B/C, you likely have many new teachers.
6th Grade Parent Coffee Chat: Our next sixth-grade coffee chat is scheduled for 8:00 on Friday, January 15. Topics to be included in this presentation will be: Communication Methods, Talking Points, Students switching to Plan B Rotations, and Elective Change Request Forms. Please let me know if there are any additional topics you would like to discuss.
If you have used Talking Points, and are comfortable sharing tips from the parent perspective, please let me know!

If you are unable to attend, the presentation will be posted on our sixth-grade website!
From CASS: Are you receiving weekly family communication from our CASS team? If you are not, please contact your student’s grade level counselor to be certain you are on their listserv.
Schedule Change Requests: Click here for the link to the Semester 2 Elective Request Change Form. Your student will need to submit the form using their Wake County email. Please only have them submit this form if they are scheduled for an elective class they have previously taken and do not want to take again. Requests will be considered but cannot be guaranteed. Core class changes will NOT be considered. Schedule change period will be from 1/8-1/13 at 2:30PM. We will be in touch via email with our decisions.
Second Semester Bus Riders: All families with students assigned transportation for the second semester received an email and text via SchoolMessenger on Thursday with information about health and safety procedures. Bus route information and attestation form status will be emailed on Friday. All students riding school transportation must have completed Bus Attestations Forms on file. Additionally, all students are to be screened at home, prior to boarding the bus. All students will be screened once they arrive on campus.
