October 25, 2020 Mustang News
This will be a long message. Please read through to the end.
Monday begins 2nd quarter and all students are asked to check their emails and Google Classrooms for invitations to their new 2nd quarter classes. We will welcome a small group of our students back for in-person learning. The rest of the students in Plan B will return starting November 9th starting with Cohort C/3. The calendar for the rest of the semester is linked here.
Fall Fundraising Update: Today is the last day of the PTA No Fuss Fundraiser and we still haven’t met our $30,000 goal. In fact, we’re more than $7,000 short. This fundraiser benefits 100% of the students at Martin. To date 20% of families have already given. Can you add your support? https://bit.ly/MartinNoFuss
Virtual Academy Spring Registration: The window is open now through November 4th for families wishing to make a change for 2nd semester learning plans. Please read your registration options. As a reminder, families who select Virtual Academy for 2nd Semester will not return to in-person learning during the 2nd Semester. Families who select Plan A/B/C will return to in-person learning during the 2nd Semester.
1st Quarter Report Cards: We will not be mailing 1st quarter report cards. Final grades for the quarter will be available on HomeBase/Parent Portal on Friday, October 30, 2020. Additionally, families are encouraged to check HomeBase/Parent Portal weekly for accurate academic progress. Google Classroom will give you a picture of what was assigned and submitted. It will not give you a picture of how your student did on the assignment. You are also encouraged to review your student’s Google Classroom with your student.
Transportation: Transportation assignments were released last week in HomeBase/ParentPortal under the Transportation tab that will allow you to view your student’s route and stop.
2nd Quarter Materials: Please contact your student’s grade level administrator or counselor or Ms. Bullock at the front desk if you did not pick up materials. They will pull the needed supplies and have them ready for you to pick up between 7:30am and 3:00pm.
Asynchronous Wednesday: Martin will have an Asynchronous Learning Day on Wednesday, October 28, 2020. Students will have required learning on Wednesday and are expected to check in with each teacher on Wednesday.
District Asynchronous Learning Days: There will be a remote learning day on each week where there is not already an interruption to the week across all calendars. Asynchronous learning days are scheduled on the following dates: November 18, December 2, December 16, January 6, and January 13. These dates are included on weeks where all calendars have five full days of learning.
Returning to in-person learning: Over the next several weeks, we will share safety protocols and measures that will be implemented at Martin to maintain the safest learning environment possible.
We will have a Virtual Coffee on Wednesday, October 28th at 8am and 4pm to share information about what returning to in-person learning will mean for both students on Plan A/B/C and Virtual Academy students.

Lunch for in-person learning will look different this year. All students will eat lunch in the cafeteria, by grade level. Students will continue to have the opportunity to eat breakfast in the cafeteria. Breakfast and lunch will be free to all students through June 2021 and meal choice will be limited. Students will be spaced 6 feet apart, facing the same direction in the cafeteria and will only remove their face coverings to eat. While face coverings are off, students will not be able to talk. Again, unless actively eating or drinking in the cafeteria, face coverings are required.
In addition to small in-person learning classes, wearing a face covering and sanitizing stations throughout the building, water fountains will only be used to fill water bottles. Students will not be able to drink directly from the water fountain. Students are encouraged to bring a refillable water bottle to school each day.
We will also maintain one way stairwells and students walking on the right while socially distancing to prevent congested transitions. Directional signs will be posted throughout the building to help remind students of new traffic patterns.
Please continue to review the Return to Campus Checklist and Return to Campus Guide for Families. This document is updated routinely.
