Principal Peckham's Weekly Message
Good evening Martin Middle School families,
I hope that all our families had a wonderful weekend. We are headed into the second week of December and I can’t believe we are almost half-way through the second quarter already!
Tonight’s newsletter will be quick, as I only have a few updates and calendar items.
We have seen an increase in students being dropped off in unauthorized areas. Morning carpoolers, please keep your students in the car with you until you reach the flagpole- not the front entrance to the school. Also, no students should be dropped off or picked up on Ridge Road or Horton Street. This proves to be a safety hazard for all our carpool drivers, and I can promise we will get you in and out of carpool quickly. Please adhere to the carpool procedures so that safety can be maintained and the flow of our carpool is not impacted.
The window to apply for a magnet or year-round school is open now until January 30th. If you know any friends, neighbors, or community members who have current 5th graders who are interested in coming to Martin for next school year-- please encourage them to sign up for a tour on our website. We are running tours every Tuesday and Thursday through January.
8th Grade Families-- Early College Apps due soon!
Reminder that while the magnet application period is open until Jan 30th,the early college application window will actually close December 16th. If you are interested in an early college, please communicate with your 8th grade counselor who can help your navigate the process and point you in the direction of any open houses, or tour opportunities.
Monday, Dec. 9th: Boys and Girls Basketball @Carnage 4pm. $5
Tuesday, Dec 10th: Theme Showcase @ Broughton HS 5:30pm.
Wednesday, Dec 11th: Interim reports for Quarter 2 coming home!
Tryouts for the Musical (Mary Poppins) begins on Wednesday and runs through Friday. These tryouts will occur in the afternoon from 2:30-4:00. Students interested can visit the martin chorus website for more details, or speak with Mr. Velarde, Ms. Lowder, or Ms. Thomas on Monday.
That concludes my news and reminders for the week. I hope you have a great night and we’ll see you bright and early tomorrow.
