Principal Peckham's Summer Message

Greetings  Martin Middle School families!

I hope you are all having a wonderful summer so far and to our new 6th grade families, WELCOME!

I am reaching out with a summer message to put a few items on your calendar and to communicate some reminders that may be helpful prior to school starting in August.

First, there are a few “Save the Dates”:

For 8th Grade Families:

Starting August 14th, 8th grade schedules will be finalized and available in powerschools for students to view. For students or parents who would like a hard copy, you may stop by the school on that Wednesday, August 14th from 8:00-10:00am to pick one up. Though teachers will not be available, the building will be open from 8-10 for any 8th graders who may want to locate their homeroom prior to the first day. Any schedules not picked up will be mailed home to our 8th grade students.

For our 6th and 7th Grade Families, please save the date of August 23rd for your “Orientation” events.

7th Grade Families: There will be a 7th Grade presentation and team introduction in the auditorium from 11:00-12:00. Though schedules are not distributed until the first day of school, students will find out their team assignments and have teacher introductions. We encourage families who plan to attend to come early to find parking. The presentation will end promptly at 12:00 so that our staff attend the last luncheon meeting and get ready for the first day of school.

6th Grade Families:

All 6th grade families are invited to join us from 8:30am-10:00am on Friday, August 23rd for the orientation event.  As students and families arrive, they will be able to find out their team assignments and then attend team specific presentations in various locations throughout our building. During this time you will also have the opportunity to join the PTA, sign up to volunteer, and address any transportation questions you may have.

*In the meantime, you are invited to bookmark and follow our Martin 6th grade website to keep up with any news.

All of our families will get more detailed information in August through our PTA summer newsletter.

Reminder that summer is a great time to get physicals complete if you think your 7th or 8th grader might be interested in playing a sport this year and they do not have an up to date physical on file. Physicals are good for a year, so double check dates.

Optional Summer Football Workouts:

August 6th, 8th, 15th, 20th, 22nd---- 6:30-7:45pm. On the Martin Softball field.

**Any student that plans to attend MUST have a current physical. Students with updated physicals may turn them in when they arrive to the coach or Athletic Director. Most students who participated or tried out for a sport last year will still have a compliant physical.

Early heads up that all 7th graders must have up to date immunizations.  Summer is a great time to get this taken care of and/or drop off copies of your updated immunization records. Parents can plan to drop off this information when they visit in August, or if it is more convenient, they can be dropped of in our Student Services Office Monday through Friday in the summer from 7:30-2:30.

That concludes my first voicemail of the 2019-2020 school year.

I am excited to see you all soon enough and hope you all continue to enjoy your summer.

Lacey Peckham
