Principal Peckham's Weekly Message

Greetings  Martin Middle School families!

I hope you all were able to get out and enjoy the warm weather today! To start this message, I want to extend a huge thank you to all the PTA and Big Red volunteers who helped out at the annual Mustang Madness event on Friday night! It was a wonderful time spent with family and friends and thank you to everyone who was able to come out and enjoy the night with us. Unfortunately, the staff went 1-3 in the competitions, getting beat by the 8th grade basketball players, and losing 1 of the 2 rounds of rodeo ball. That is okay because the enthusiasm was high and we will come back hungry for redemption next year! It was a delight to see all the groups perform, and most especially to see the students cheering each other on, and to see so many of our gifts and talents on display. We don’t have the full results in on the fundraising efforts, or the team pizza parties, but will I deliver that news in my next voicemail.

Chess club:

If you are a chess enthusiast or are interested in learning the game for the first time: the Martin MS Chess Club meets weekly at 2.30p on Tuesdays and is trained by a Chess GrandMaster. They are preparing for the upcoming State Championship and a Team Tournament in April. New kids are always welcome to join, just head to Mr. McDonald’s room on Tuesday afternoons. We look forward to building a fun chess culture at Martin.

Vote for our NC School Heroes!

The North Carolina Lottery is funding a “School Heroes” program through their website and social media. Teachers and school staff across the state can be nominated and the winners will receive $10,000 for themselves and another $10,000 cash prize for their school.  We have several Martin staff members nominated at this point, so I want to just continue to encourage all of our community to go the link below, or at to keep voting!
