Principal Peckham's Weekly Message

Greetings Martin Middle School families!

I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful weekend. I want to start the newsletter this week with some congratulations before I jump into reminders and the calendar.

First, I want to recognize a few of our Martin students who placed in the Wake County Reflections Art Contest:

Alex Dick, 1st place film
Jolie Duquene, 1st PLace music composition
Lucy Morales, 3rd Place Dance (tie) with
Caroline Schick, 3rd Place Dance
These students competed with students all across Wake County and we are so proud of their accomplishments and display of their gifts and talents!

Second, I wanted to give a shout out to Martin’s Battle of the Books Team that competed yesterday. This team of 10 students read over 200 books to be ready for the competition and did an outstanding job- defeating both Apex and Ligon in Rounds 1 & 2.  Unfortunately, they lost a tough battle in the afternoon match, but a huge congratulations goes out to our team for making the Top 8 out of all the Middle Schools!

Finally, in case you haven’t heard about it in the media last week, the North Carolina Lottery is sponsoring a “School Heroes” program through their website and social media. Teachers and school staff across the state can be nominated and the winning nominees will receive $10,000 for themselves and another $10,000 cash prize for their school.  One of our very own, Mrs. Valerie Reppi, has been nominated and I HIGHLY encourage all of our community to go the link below, or at right now! You can vote once per day on every device between now and March 31st. You can also nominate another Mustang for this honor, as there is no limit to the number per school. Get out and rock the vote, and let’s get Ms. Reppi recognized as a NC School Hero!

Martin Server Upgrade!

Heads up that Monday through Thursday of this week Martin Middle School is undergoing a major server upgrade, and system imaging for all of our technology.  What does that mean for you? Staff and students will not have access to their technology for much of the week, which will mean delays in grades being uploaded and/or emails being checked.  The speed of this project is very contingent on how “free” the server is, especially on Monday and Tuesday. Help us out by staying off our server while in carpool, and keeping your students’ phone at home. The less technology pulling on our server during this process, the faster we will be up and running again. Thank you in advance for your patience as we have this completed- we look forward to faster speeds and use of Microsoft 10 in the near future!

Chess club:

If you are a chess enthusiast or are interested in learning the game for the first time: the Martin MS Chess Club meets weekly at 2.30p on Tuesdays and is trained by a Chess GrandMaster. They are preparing for the upcoming State Championship and a Team Tournament in April. New kids are always welcome to join, just head to Mr. McDonald’s room on Tuesday afternoons. We look forward to building a fun chess culture at Martin.

There will be a  staff vs. student basketball game, and staff vs. student “rodeo ball” game, as well as a performance by our cheer team. In addition to the silent auction items you can bid on at the event, there are raffles every day this week at lunch, every $1 earns them 2 entries- and students have the chance to win some awesome prizes as we build momentum for the event. You can send money in with your student or buy tickets online using the link below:

The 6th grade & 7th grade team, as well as 8th grade floor that raises the most money on the raffle, will win a pizza party. Make sure you come out on Friday to join us for some family fun and fundraising.

That is all I have for your tonight.  Let’s hope we dodge some of this wintery weather have a fun-filled week this week! I’ll see you bright and early tomorrow.
