Principal Peckham's Weekly Message

Good afternoon Martin Middle School families!

I hope all of our students and families navigated yesterday’s inclement weather with minimal disruption. Thankfully our school was not significantly impacted by the wind or rain, so we will be ready to go for our students on Monday.

Because school was closed for students today, there will be no fall play tonight.  We are exploring the possibility of next Thursday and Friday but will likely do a voicemail early next week to let you know.

The following is some information to get your ready for what is coming next week.

Fall Fundraiser!

Hopefully your students brought home the Fall Fundraiser flier this past Wednesday.  Next week we will be having our only fundraiser of the year and it is NO FUSS! No Bake sale, No wrapping paper, no coupon books! All the proceeds go directly to Martin to use for our programming and students.

Parents and family members can donate by using this link or submitting cash or checks to our parent reps in carpool all week next week.

We also get the students involved every day through a grade level PENNY WAR! Students can bring in their change and compete for the prize of FREE SEATING for a week in the lunchroom. The basic gist is dollars and pennies earn points for their team, while they can put silver coins in other grade level jars to take their points away.

There are also daily prize drawings for any students who make donations of coins.

We have made great strides in the past few years updating some technology at Martin but the PTA has been asked to outfit the school with 45 new Chromebooks so each Science class gets 5 new Chromebooks.   Let’s bring our device sharing ratio down and give our kids some new equipment!

In addition to the Chromebooks, the Martin PTA No Fuss Fundraiser supports:

  • Hospitality and staff appreciation efforts

  • Technology & print subscriptions (that the District can no longer fund): Brain Pop, Scholastic, I-Ready, V-Math

  • Academic Club materials and Competitions: Battle of the Books, Robotics, Science Olympiad, Odyssey of the Mind

  • Character Recognition Ceremonies

  • Academic Awards (Both Achievement and Growth)

  • Teacher Professional Development

  • Staff Stipends for classroom material supplies

Help us reach our goal of $40,000 for the fall fundraiser!

There are still a couple volunteering opportunities (bringing donuts or helping collect money during penny wars at lunch) - sign up here.

Spirit Week:

In honor of our fall sports and the fall fundraiser, next week is our FALL SPIRIT WEEK! The following are our daily themes and we hope your student will dress up and join in the fun.

Monday: Sports Team Day (Wear your favorite sports team shirt or jersey)

Tuesday: Hawaiian Day (Wear your best tropical look!)

Wednesday: Red & White Day (Wear red and white to show your school spirit!)

Thursday: Character Day- Dress like you favorite character from any book, tv, show or movie!)

Friday: Wacky Tacky Day (Wear wacky hats, wigs, clothing and/or socks!)

Another great way to make contributions to our school is by donating your BOXTOPS! So that we can hit the December collection date, we are running a contest next week---All you have to do is put your unexpired official Boxtops for Education in a ziplock bag with your students  name, grade/homeroom on it and drop in the RED WOODEN Collection Box by the Main Office Entrance. One student from each grade level who turns in the most unexpired boxtops will win a VISA gift card and the homeroom that turns in the most boxtops will win a BREAKFAST PARTY. Each box top is worth 10 cents and that really adds up quickly.   Thank you as always for your support.
