Principal Peckham's Weekly Message
Good evening Martin Middle School families!
After a great opening week of school, I hope you all enjoyed a fantastic long weekend.
Even though we have a short week this week I do have a couple of important reminders to put on your radar.
First, please plan to attend our Meet the Teacher Night this Thursday, September 6th at 6:00pm. Unlike in the past, we will forego the brief introductory session in the auditorium, and will instead start with all parents reporting to their student’s homeroom. Parents will need to know their student’s homeroom teacher and room number and once they arrive to that location, they will get their student’s full schedule. I will do a brief overview that will be played on the tvs in each classroom, then parents will follow a modified bell schedule, getting to meet with each class for about 9 minutes. Students should not attend with the parents that evening, as most of the information will be geared directly to our parents.
Also on Thursday night Martin will have the 1st of 4 PTA meetings for the school year at 5:00 in the cafeteria. Not only will you beat the parking rush by joining us early, but you will get the opportunity to learn more about the activities the PTA is planning to support throughout the year. They will be discussing and approving the budget, sharing reports from various committees, and discussing the work and focus for the year. All parents/guardians are welcome and encouraged to attend. Make a night of it and stick around for the "Meet the Teacher" afterwards.
Powerschool Parent Portal Requests:
Many parents have requested powerschool parent portal access for the new school year. Please be advised that this process can take up to 4 weeks, so please be patient. There have been very few graded assignments so far, so you are not missing anything as of yet. Our support staff is working to make sure you get that access as quickly as possible. Log-in information will be coming home in an envelope with your student sometime the week of the 20th. In the meantime, please do not use your student’s account as it will likely result in locking them out. Students are using their Wake-Ids for many classroom applications and it could cause additional delays if they end up locked out. We promise to get parents their log ins as quickly as possible.
That concludes my message in preparation for this week. I looking forward to making week 2 even better than week 1 as we settle in.
I hope you have a great night, see you bright and early tomorrow!
