Principal Peckham's Weekly Message

Greetings Martin Middle School families!

Fall Fundraiser Updates!

Thank you to everyone who has donated to our fall fundraiser! We appreciate all the contributions in carpool, online and through the penny wars. We will continue to collect today and tomorrow online and in carpool so if you missed it last week, please look out for those opportunities. For our 8th grade families, please know that your donations will be put to work THIS YEAR. The 2 classrooms we would like to outfit with laptops are 8th grade Science classes, and we hope to move forward and order that technology as soon as the final fundraising results are in. Also, stay tuned for the results of the penny wars as we head back from Thanksgiving break. We are still counting all that change but are excited at the student participation in that battle!

Staff email transitioning to Outlook

Please be advised that Martin has been undergoing an email system transition over the last 2 weeks. Some staff members started early in November, but a majority of the staff started their conversions at the end of last week. Please be patient with email responses as we have discovered numerous glitches including emails bouncing back as we tried to respond, and some emails not being received. I appreciate your patience and flexibility as we move to an improved system.

November Highlights!

It has been an awesome November so far! Sunday our Jazz Band and Dance Company’s performed at the Jazz Fusion concert and put on an excellent show! Several of our performing arts groups have already had some exciting results come in, even though we are only a quarter of the way through the year. First, we had 10 students from Martin representing the NC Honors Chorus early this month, which is a huge showing- more than any other MS and a very prestigious honor. Also, we had 20 band students from Martin who qualified for the All-County Band. Congratulations to our outstanding performing arts students and our directors for really “Raising the Bar” already this year. Also, if you didn’t see it on our twitter, Martin’s Illusions Creative Writing Magazine won 1st place again in the middle school division of the NC student publications awards contest run by the North Carolina Literary and Historical Association. Congratulations and well done to our advisor Ms. Iadicicco and all of the students who worked on and contributed to this magazine last year. We hope to put together a great magazine this year as we move into that course 3rd and 4th quarter.

Short week this week!

As you are probably already aware- this week is abbreviated for the Thanksgiving holiday. We will have an Early Release tomorrow, dismissing at 11:45. Please make arrangements for carpool or for your student if they ride the bus. They will see all of their classes tomorrow and have lunch.

Wednesday-Friday Martin MS will be closed to students and families, so if you have any pressing needs, please leave a message on our mainline, or plan to visit us Monday when we return from the holiday.

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday and safe travels if you will be on the road or in the air. I am extremely thankful to be the principal at this amazing school and to get to work with your children everyday.
