Principal Peckham's Weekly Message
Greetings Martin Middle School families!
I hope you all had an enjoyable long weekend. Thank you to all the veterans in our Martin Community for your service. It is greatly appreciated.
Also, thank you to all our families who sent donations in last Thursday for Breast Cancer Awareness. We were able to raise over $700 that day alone and it all went to Breast Cancer research on behalf of Martin. Thank you everyone who donated!
Football Game Monday!
As you know, our football game on Thursday was rescheduled and will now be played on Monday afternoon. Game time will be 3:45 (which is different from our normal start time) so please make arrangements if you plan to attend. We hope to finish our season strong so come out and support our football team as they play Carnage. Cost is $5.
Basketball Tryouts Next Week:
Because of the rescheduled game, our basketball tryouts have been adjusted.
Boys’ Basketball tryouts will be Tuesday 2:30-4:30 and Wednesday 2:30-4:00
Girls’ Basketball tryouts will be Wednesday from 4:00-5:30 and Thursday from 2:30-4:30.
Girls staying after on Wednesday for tryouts will have the opportunity to stay at school until 4:00 for a supervised study hall in the cafeteria.
Martin Middle School's Fall Fundraiser!!
This week we will have our annual fall fundraiser. Martin has only one fundraiser each year to support the academic programs for our school, so please consider donating. It is no-fuss, meaning there is nothing to sell, we are just accepting donations in carpool and online at martinpta.com. The funds go to support yearly costs such as character education, academic recognition programs, student agendas, student academic teams (like robotics, science Olympiad, Battle of the Books), teacher stipends for their classrooms and cultural arts program. It also sponsors yearly projects and our hope this year is to raise enough to purchase laptop carts (with 10 laptops) for our last 2 core-subject classes that are lacking them. Each cart costs about $6000, so all contributions are GREATLY appreciated so that we can meet these school needs.
A flier with more details should have come home with students. We are also having a week-long “Penny War” between grade levels to get the students involved and raise the hype. Rules are outlined on the flier, but essentially students can contribute coins and bills to their grade level jar to earn points. They are competing for a week of free lunch seating, which is a hot commodity amongst our students, so I hope you will encourage them and support the fundraiser in this way.
PTA Meeting Monday @ 7:00
We will have our 2nd quarter PTA meeting on Monday at 7:00 in the Media Center. We will have principal and counselor updates, discuss Quarter 2 events & the fall fundraiser. If you want to hear more please come out and join us.
Parent Information on Magnet High Schools @ 6:15pm:
For our 8th grade parents Martin will also have some Magnet High School information available for parents who are interested at 6:15pm in the Media Center before the PTA meeting. We will have representatives from Broughton HS and Southeast Raleigh HS onsite to share about their programs and answer questions, and Ms. West will share some overview information about other schools who will be visiting with our 8th grade students that week. Make a night of it and come by before the PTA meeting.
One last event for the calendar next week:
Fall Dance Concert on Tuesday at 7:00. Come see our Martin dancers in action in their first performance of the year.
That concludes my news for the week. We’ll see you bright and early tomorrow morning.
