Congratulations to Yana Saienko for being selected as our Spotlight on Student. She was recognized on April 9th at the WCPSS board meeting for her incredible resilience and excellence in education. Below is the write-up that was read at the board meeting.

"Yana Saienko is an exceptional 8th-grade student at Fuquay-Varina Middle School, who embodies resilience and excellence. Arriving as a refugee from Ukraine at the end of her 6th-grade year, Yana faced the daunting challenge of adapting to a new language and culture. Despite these hurdles, she has flourished academically, earning a place on the A/B honor roll in less than two years. Yana's rapid mastery of English reflects her unwavering determination and intellectual acumen. Beyond academics, she has actively engaged with her peers, fostering connections and promoting diversity by sharing her Ukrainian heritage. Yana's journey serves as a testament to her strength and resilience, enriching our school community in profound ways."
