The School Board has approved an update to the Child Nutrition Services Meal Charges Policy, allowing students to charge the amount of money that they are unable to pay for a meal, so long as this does not create a negative account balance of more than $5.00 (five dollars). Students who are required to pay for meals are asked to do so in a timely manner; however, in the event that a student has forgotten or lost their meal money, this policy change allows a small charge on the student’s account to cover insufficient funds. Parents are responsible for paying all meal charge debt by the last day of the school year. For more information, see Policy Code: 6221 Meal Charges.
Parents are encouraged to reapply for meal benefits for the 2020-21 school year by applying online at myschoolapps.com, or requesting a paper application from their child’s school. For the 20-21 school year, students who qualify for reduced-price meal benefits will receive their meals at no charge. Meal benefits from the 19-20 school year will expire 30 school days after the first day of school based on your child’s school calendar. For more information, please visit the Child Nutrition Services website.
Through December 31, all Wake County students may receive breakfast and lunch via Curbside Service at no cost. Meals will not be available on holidays designated on the student’s calendar. For more information and a list of all community feeding sites, visit wcpss.net/food.
