Principal's Message 10-3-22
Happy Monday!
There will be no school on Monday October 10, due to a Teacher Workday.
Next week is Custodian Appreciation Week.
National Custodian Day is commemorated every year on October 2. Mr. Reggie is the hero in the background that keeps the day-to-day operations of Wiley moving throughout the year, so if you see him this week, take a little time to say Thank you for his hard work and dedication.
Magnet Application Window
The application window for Magnet and Year-Round schools will be open from October 14 through January 25. Applications are not first-come, first-served. Families are notified via email if they receive a seat at a school they requested. Watch this step-by-step instructional video if you have any questions about the magnet school application process. This month we will begin tours for any prospective families that are interested in attending Wiley for the 23 -24 school year.
Annual Health Assessment and Immunization Compliance Reporting
All N.C. public schools are required annually, no later than Nov. 1, to report the Health Assessments status for students who are enrolling for the first time and the immunization status of all students in kindergarten.Letters are being sent out to families who still need to provide updated immunization records. Please see or email our data manager, Sharon Barr, at ncwise620@wcpss.net for any questions you may have about the annual health assessments.
Kindness Awareness Month
October is Kindness Awareness Month. We will take this time to practice activities that build student-to-student relationships and decrease the likelihood of rude or mean behavior. We define rude behavior as behavior that is unintentionally hurtful and mean as behavior that is intentionally intended to cause harm. All month will focus on ways to Yield to Kindness and avoid intentionally causing harm to our friends. As a parent or guardian, you can help us spread kindness and address mean and hurtful behavior at school by asking questions at home and allowing investigation time after notifying teachers or administration of any repeated harmful or unwanted attention.
Wiley Way Soiree
Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 7:30-10:30 pm
The Wiley Foundation, Wiley PTA, and Cecilia Rawlins Fund are uniting to launch a new annual fundraiser to benefit the students, teachers, and families at our award-winning school. These three non-profit organizations work to support the needs of the school community throughout the year.
The Wiley Way Soiree is an opportunity for parents and friends of the school to have fun and learn more about investing in our school through volunteer and financial support. Our goal this year for the Soiree is to foster a strong school community by focusing on the pillars of the “Wiley Way”: collaboration, empathy, kindness, and respect.
This adults-only event will be held at Trophy Brewing’s new event facility at 622 Maywood Avenue. Plan to join us for heavy hors d’oeuvres, sweet treats, beer/wine, music, and contests!
