Welcome to the 22 - 23 school year
Welcome to the 22 -23 school year!
We are excited to welcome you back or welcome you for the first time to the Wiley Family. This is going to be a great year where Wiley goes Back to the Future. We are extremely excited about starting the year with you. We consider it an honor to be able to work with some of the brightest and hard-working students in the district. This is going to be a great year with lots of opportunities to learn, grow, and try new things!
We have all experienced a lot over the course of the last three years and, as things continue to change and impact our lives, Wiley is making the choice to move forward and get Back to the Future. We are using the lessons that we’ve learned, accepting the things that have happened, and choosing to charge forward into the endless possibilities of tomorrow where we will investigate the world, recognize different perspectives, communicate ideas and take action!
Meet the Teacher
We will host our “Meet the Teacher” on Thursday, August 25, from 4 pm until 6 pm. This is a great time to meet your teacher, drop off school supplies, or pick up supplies purchased. This event is scheduled for first grade through fifth grade students as Kindergarten Meet the Teacher will be held on Friday, September 2, from 2pm - 3 pm. Although all families are encouraged to attend the Meet the Teacher event on Thursday, August 25, if, for some reason, you are unable to attend this event, we have scheduled an additional event for Friday morning, August 26, from 10 am - 12 pm. It is important to attend only one event.
For families who ordered school supplies, items will be available for pickup during our Meet the Teacher event on Thursday, August 25. If you are unable to pick up your materials at this time, they can be picked up from August 17 - 26 between 10 am - 3pm. Supplies that are not picked up prior to the first day of school will be delivered to homeroom classes.
Please complete the following form (22 -23 Carpool Tag Request Form/Espanol) if your child is a car rider at any time this year. We will continue to use carpool numbers for the 22 -23 school year. Each family will receive 2 carpool tags. If you have a special situation in which you often (multiple times a month) pick up different children, please request an additional carpool tag for the most frequent combination and an additional tag/number for the other car pool combination. Different carpool numbers will be assigned to different combinations of students, NOT different adults picking up that child. Please do not request more than one number unless the tag will be used frequently. If you need more than two tags with the same number, please call the office. Communicate your request to our lead secretary. We will do our best to assign the same numbers that were used last year. Please complete this form to assist with this task. (ENGLISH/SPANISH)
First day of school
The first day of school for first grade through fifth grade students is Monday, August 29. The arrival bell rings at 8:45 am. Families are encouraged to arrive at school between 8:45 am and 9:15 am. Our instructional bell rings at 9:15 am. Students who arrive after 9:15 are considered tardy. For the first two weeks of school, a 10 minute grace period will be extended to all families who arrive after 9:15. Please understand that it is important that your child is on time every day, but we also understand how difficult this can be as you get back in the habit of doing school. We believe that missed minutes equal missed instruction and minutes turn into hours, which turn into days. Your child’s presence is important.
Homeroom teachers will reach out to all students prior to our Meet the Teacher date. If your child’s teacher does not notify you prior to this event, please make sure that we have the most recent contact information on file by calling the school at 919-856-7723.
Kindergarten Staggered Entry
Kindergarten staggered entry will occur for kindergarten students the first week of school. During staggered entry, your child will attend school for only one day with the first day of school for all kindergarten students on Tuesday, September 6. Kindergarten students will meet their teacher on Friday, September 2, from 2 pm- 3pm. All kindergarten families should have received a kindergarten welcome letter the week of July 25. If you did not receive a letter please contact our Data Manager (email@example.com) and make sure your enrollment is complete.
This year, breakfast will be $1.50 and lunch will be $3.00 if your child does not qualify for free or reduced prices. Meals are nutrient rich and include low-fat dairy, whole grains, lean meats, and an assortment of fruits and vegetables with a variety of offerings for students to choose from daily. We ask that all families complete the 2022-23 meal benefits application, which will be available online at MySchoolApps.com. Paper copies will be available for pick up at the school office, if necessary. For families who completed the 2021-22 meal benefits application, the eligibility benefit will be effective for their student the first 30 school days of the 2022-2023 school year.
Starting Monday August 29, the Wiley newsletter will be sent out to each family via school messenger and posted on our school website. School messenger is one of the many ways we communicate reminders and links to our Wiley family. Please make sure that you have provided us with your most up-to-date desired means of communication. The district and Wiley both use School Messenger to communicate relevant and urgent communication, especially in the event of an emergency.
Please use the links below to view the elective courses offered this year to students. This year, we are asking families to select their elective choices for Quarters 1 and 2 in the Fall and we will hold a second elective registration in the Winter for Quarters 3 and 4. You may also use the linked Elective Registration Google Form to go ahead and submit your child’s elective registration. Please email our Magnet Coordinator, Claire Sullivan (firstname.lastname@example.org) with any questions about electives.
There are still a few PTA committee positions open! If you are interested in taking on a leadership role or just want to get involved, please email president@Wileypta.org
Registration is now open for the beginning and continuing band! If your student is in 3rd - 5th grade and you want to know more, please go to https://www.wileypta.org/programs/band for more information.
To help families plan fall schedules, we want to ensure that you know that after-school clubs will be held on Wednesdays (not Tuesdays like last year). Please note these and other PTA dates, including meet-ups, can be found here: https://www.wileypta.org/dates
The Wiley Family Directory is live! Only families who have opted-in are included and have received the password to access. It is automatically updated as more families opt in.
If you have any questions or concerns, please start with your homeroom teacher. If questions occur before your teacher is confirmed, please email questions about enrollment to our data manager via email (email@example.com) or administration at firstname.lastname@example.org (Tracy Avery, Principal) and email@example.com (Katie Ware, Assistant Principal). If you are not sure where to direct your questions and concerns, you are directed to use this link: https://www.wcpss.net/Page/3747. Please allow us 24 to 48 hours to respond to all inquiries and concerns. If you have an emergency, please call the school and ask to speak to the principal or assistant principal and leave a message with our receptionist or lead secretary and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
We can’t wait to see you!
