After a great success last year, some of our GHE parents are planning to continue the journey to Science Olympiad tournament this year as well.

Here is what is needed from a 4th or 5th grader to be a Science Olympiad team member:

  1. An energetic, inquisitive GHE falcon (in above grades) who is willing to work with other falcons in small teams to learn and solve challenging science problems while having fun along the way.
  2. At least one Parent(s)/Guardian willing to commit to be a coach for at least one of the 19 events (event is a science problem that would have to be solved by a small team of students.)

Good Evening Families,

This is Mrs. Walker with some news for the week ahead.  I hope everyone had a wonderful first week back! I know we enjoyed having all of our Falcons back and welcoming our newest Falcons throughout Kindergarten staggered entry.

We are eternally grateful for such a supportive parent community. Our incoming PTA Board has been hard at work beautifying our campus, refreshing our website and creating a newsletter to communicate important information to parents and staff regularly. We have a lot of fun events coming up. So be sure to visit ghepta.org where you can purchase your spirit wear and classroom resources as well as become a member of the GHE PTA.

  • Remember that this Monday September 2nd is the Labor Day holiday and there is no school for staff and students.
  • On Tuesday September 3rd, our Kindergarteners start school full time.
  • Thursday, September 5th is Curriculum Night (Formerly called Open House)

 Curriculum Night Session(A-L) 1: 5:30PM - 6:15PM

Parent Teacher Association Meeting: 6:15 PM - 6:45PM

 Curriculum Night Session 2 (M-Z): 7PM - 7:45PM

Please note both sessions are identical. If you have two children at our school, the two sessions allow you to see both teachers.

Some friendly reminders- Please remember to enter and exit the building only through the front. Since all students have had a week to find their way to their classrooms, they should not need a parent escort this week.

If parents need to go to the classroom, please come in and sign in in the office first. Please also note that as teachers are getting instruction up and rolling, it is necessary to set up an appointment with the teacher ahead of time if you would need to meet. Teachers do check email during the day, and that is a great way to communicate as well.

Thank you as always for your continued support of our school community. Have a wonderful weekend and we will see everyone on Tuesday morning!

Good Evening Families,

This is Mrs. Walker with some news for the week ahead. Please remember that Monday is a holiday and school is closed on that day.

The weather is getting hotter and hotter. Please know that recess times may be abbreviated to comply with policies concerning student exposure to high temperatures.

As temperatures increase, please feel free to send in a water bottle with your student.

End of Grade Testing will begin on May 29th. See below. Please remember that it is imperative that students arrive on time on those days.

Schedules will be changed to accommodate testing. So if you are planning to come and eat lunch with your student, you will need to check with their teacher first to get the time.

Lastly, please realize that testing affects all staff in some way. It may take a little longer for you to get a reply from staff during this time.  We thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.

Thank you, as always for your continued support of our school community.

Please enjoy a safe and wonderful long weekend and we will see everyone on Tuesday morning.

Dear GHE Families,

I am very excited to announce that on Wednesday, February 6th Green Hope Elementary School will be participating in Global School Play Day. Here is a link to the Ted Talk which will help to explain the origin of this special day. https://youtu.be/Bg-GEzM7iTk

On February 6th, students will be responsible for nothing but play- in the truest sense of the word. Students will not be permitted to be on screens at all during this day. Teachers will not be showing movies or structuring student play at all. Teachers will, of course, maintain a safe and well- supervised environment.

In the days leading up to February 6th, students can bring in board games, and toys (be sure to label them) in preparation for their play day.

Our hope is that we can allow students this opportunity to be creative, to collaborate, and socialize with their peers and just be kids! We appreciate your support of this initiative as we believe that play is a very important part of a child’s learning and development.  For further information, visit the

https://www.globalschoolplayday.com/

We are all so excited for Global School Play Day!

Good Morning GHE Families,

This is Mrs. Walker with some news for the week ahead! I am sending this message earlier in the day due to time sensitive content.

Please know that today assignment strips for your child’s school placement next year will be sent home. Good Evening GHE Families,

Thank you to all those who came out to Back to School Night last night. It was so good to see everyone!

Students had a surprise when the fire alarm sounded today, and they did an outstanding job vacating the building in an efficient and orderly fashion.  We were very proud of their SOARing behavior. The alarm was caused by a mechanical issue which was quickly rectified. The Fire Department responded very quickly as well. Students got to see community helpers in action! The entire incident was less than 15 minutes.

We are so grateful to everyone for following dismissal procedures. Our entire dismissal has gotten very efficient at under 15 minutes.

Third grade parents, please remember that our third graders will be taking the B.O.G on this Tuesday September 11th. Students must be in class on time. If they are not here before the testing starts, they will not be able to enter the classroom.

Kindergarten lunch helpers start next week, please visit ghepta.org to sign up for a time to help our littlest Falcons in the cafeteria. You can also become a PTA member, get classroom resources, Spirit Wear, and yearbooks, and find out about other volunteer opportunities at ghepta.org.

Thank you as always for your continued support of our community! Have a wonderful weekend and we will see everyone on Monday morning!

School Message 8/31/18

Good Evening Families,

Thank you all for a wonderful start to this school year. We have enjoyed getting to know your children! I will be sending a principal message weekly on Friday evenings. This message will also be posted on our website under Principal Message for you to review.

Procedural

As instruction gets underway we want to be sure that we are respecting all instructional time. We ask that unless you are volunteering in the classroom, or you have an appointment with the teacher, that you do not sign in to see the teacher unannounced. This is in the interest of keeping the integrity of instruction in the classroom and to respect the teacher’s time as they plan and deliver instruction. If your student forgets something you can drop it off at the front office and we will be sure that it gets to them.

Parents, we greatly appreciate your patience with us during dismissal as we work to dismiss all students safely. If you are parking to come into the building, please park in the spots marked for visitors as the other spots are assigned to staff members.

We had our first fire drill yesterday and all of our Falcons did a stellar job of listening and exiting the building quickly.

Thank you’s

A great big thank you to our parent volunteers, Heather Swift and Kristen Moore who have been helping to direct traffic in the morning and afternoon, and all of our parents for your patience and understanding in our busy front office.

Reminders

Please note that there is a lot of very important information on our school’s website (https://www.wcpss.net/greenhopees). You can view the Parent Handbook under About our School. We hope this will answer any remaining questions you may have.

Our third-grade students are taking the BOG test this Tuesday, September 11th. Parents will be receiving further information about this on Tuesday September 4th.

Please be sure to join our wonderful PTA! If you got to ghepta.org, you can join and also order shirts and classroom resources. You may also find ways to volunteer to help with any of the PTA sponsored activities.

Monday is the Labor Day Holiday and there will be no school for students or staff on that day. We look forward to welcoming all our Kindergarteners on Tuesday, September 4th.

August 2018

Dear Falcon Families,

We are so excited to welcome our students and families back for the 2018-2019 school year! Please know that you will receive an email from your child’s assigned teacher on this Monday August 20th by 4:00 pm. This will be how you are informed of your child’s teacher.

GHE Meet the Teacher will be held Thursday August 23rd.

If your last name begins with …

A-L you may come and meet your Teacher from 1:30-2:30.

M-Z- you may come and meet your teacher from 3:00- 4:00.

Before we begin the year, I also want to update you on a couple of changes to our policies. We will no longer be accepting food for birthday celebrations. You are more than welcome to bring in pencils or non-edible items for a class treat. This is in keeping with our policy of safety first and is in alignment with Wake County Board Policy.

In the interest of protecting instructional time, we will not be interrupting classrooms during instruction. Please make every effort to remind your student of the things they need for school before they leave the house. If your child forgets something (lunch, water bottle, etc. ), you may leave it on the table outside the office.  Your child will be able to pick it up from there on their way to the lunchroom. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to respect time in the classroom, and to instill responsibility in our students.

Additional important information will be available in the cafeteria at Meet the Teacher concerning bus, walker, and carpooler procedures at GHE.

We are so excited for the 2018-2019 school year and consider it an honor and a privilege to serve students and their families every day.

GHE Falcons SOAR.
