Explorer Express for 4/7/21

Classes Resume on Thursday, April 8

We are excited to return from spring break and begin Quarter 4 at Weatherstone on Thursday, April 8th. All Face to Face students K-5 will return to the building for daily instruction and all Virtual Academy students will resume with remote learning on Thursday.

Attendance Policy Update for Face to Face Students

There have been some changes to the attendance policy for the remainder of the school year, which include the following:

  1. If a student is in Plan A and does not physically attend, the student should be marked absent per Policy 4400. If a student is not physically attending for reasons that would not be considered excused under section C of Policy 4400, then the student should be marked absent as unexcused.
  2. If a student in Plan A requires quarantining due to a positive diagnosis for COVID-19 or exposure, the student should be marked absent-excused, similar to a student who is absent for any of the reasons in section C of Policy 4400. Any students who are absent for excused reasons per Policy 4400 should be provided remote learning access that is available at the school.

Health Screenings Update & WES Arrival Changes

Starting Wednesday, April 7, we will no longer conduct on-site health screenings. We need your help to keep our school communities healthy by keeping your student home if they are not feeling well or have been diagnosed with or exposed to COVID-19.

Students should not be in school if they are diagnosed with COVID-19, exposed to someone with COVID-19, instructed to quarantine, or if they are sick or experiencing any of these symptoms:

  • 100.4° fever or higher
  • Sore throat
  • New cough
  • New shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Diarrhea or vomiting
  • New severe headache

You can read more about this WCPSS policy change at this link.

WES has updated our Arrival & Dismissal Procedures to align with this change.  Please note the following changes:

Walkers:

Prior to 8:45, walkers and their adult family members will meet outside the gate by the third grade mobile units. Families will maintain social distancing by using the markers and sidewalk divisions. Students should not be left alone prior to 8:45 on campus, as there is not staff to monitor the students to help them maintain social distancing.

Starting at 8:45, students will be allowed to walk to the front of the building to enter through the front doors to use hand sanitizer.

Carpool:

Prior to 8:45, families will pull up to the school through the outer carpool lane. The inner carpool lane will be closed off. Students must remain in their cars until staff direct them to enter the building. Staff members will not be opening doors for families this year.

Starting at 8:45, students will be allowed to walk to the front of the building to enter through the front doors to use hand sanitizer.

VA Material Pickup

Any Virtual Academy families who did not come to school today to pick up their materials should plan to stop by school to pick up materials that are needed for the next week of remote learning. You can call the school at 919-380-6988 to schedule a time to pick them up or stop by between the hours of 9:30-3:00 and ring the front doorbell to have someone bring them out to you. Please reach out to the school or your teacher if you have any concerns.
