Explorer Express for the Week of 9/21/20

Feedback Survey

Thank you for your feedback on the WES Remote Learning Family Survey for September.  The information that you shared enabled us to give positive feedback to the teachers and allowed us to begin reviewing possible improvements to our schedule and remote learning expectations.  We anticipate sending out a WCPSS family survey as well.

As we continue to review family and staff feedback and plan for some students to return to campus, we will consider implementing future changes.

One adjustment we are making starting Monday, is to provide students and families the opportunity to participate in specials classes on a more flexible schedule.  All students are still required to complete the assignments, but will not be required to attend daily live meets with their specialists.  The Specialists remain committed to providing daily live opportunities for students to check in with them during their scheduled time.  More details are listed in the section below.

Specials

  • Monday starts a new 3-week rotation of specials. Grade levels will switch to the special listed below from September 21st-October 9th.
  • Special lessons will now be RECORDED. Lessons will be posted by 10:00 AM and can be viewed at any time before doing the specials assignments
  • To access lessons, families will go to their specialist’s Google Classroom page and click on the post where the recording is shared
  • Parents and students, If you have questions about specials, reach out to your specialist teacher via email OR during the following live times. Specials teachers will be live during these times for students to check in or ask questions live if needed

IStation Benchmark

  • During the month of September, all WCPSS students will be required to take the Istation ISIP universal screener to determine their individualized instructional needs in Literacy.
  • Istation’s ISIP results will not impact your child’s grades.  This information simply guides teachers' instruction and therefore, it is extremely important that parents refrain from helping during the screening process.
  • Teachers already have or will soon be sending out information about how to access and take the ISIP at home
  • You can view this video about Istation as well:  Istation ISIP at Home for Parents Remote Guidance
  • Please DO NOT have your child complete the assessment until instructed to do so.
  • If you are using a non-district device, follow your teacher’s instructions on how to complete the ISIP.
  • The ISIP benchmark closes on September 30th
