Explorer Express for 9/8/19

2019 Open House Nights

The 2019 Open House Events will be held on 9/17 and 9/19. 3rd-5th will be on 9/17 and K-2nd Grades will be on 9/19.  Please note that these presentations are designed for parents and child-care is not provided.

For Open House this year, we are offering parents the opportunity to attend sessions that may support the individual needs of their students from 5:00-6:00 PM and then meet with the classroom teacher.  More information on these sessions will come home soon.

From 6:05-6:30 or 6:35-7:00, you can visit your child’s teacher in their classroom for an informational session.

Friday Folders

WES Families, please note that this year the WES Staff has decided to transition to Friday Folders for weekly news.  It is important to review the information each weekend and return the folder and any signature pages each Monday.  For example, be on the lookout this week for Fall Field Trip Information Flyers.

Fourth Grade Service Project Continues

Fourth grade will be continuing their Other People Matter Service Project this week. Fourth grade students will continue to collect change in the front of the school each morning for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. They are doing this to raise awareness for Duchenne Awareness Day which was Sept. 7 and in honor of Mrs. Foster’s son Nathan, who has DMD. They are also encouraging all students to wear green on Friday, September 13th for Muscular Dystrophy. Thank you for supporting them!

Positivity Project: Other People Matter

This year students will examine 24 character strengths, along with 6 mindsets through the organization The Positivity Project. Each morning classrooms spend 15 minutes exploring these strengths; watch for an informational letter coming home in your child's next Friday Folder for further information. Last week we began observing ways WES's fundraiser for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is an example of how a community comes together to show other people matter. This week will be a continuation exploring what it means to give to others through the use of time, attention, and care. Please visit our webpage or https://posproject.org for a snapshot of this classroom movement.
