October 12th Update

Dear Middle Creek Elementary Families,

I hope everyone is enjoying their track out!  The last few days have been wash outs, but it looks like sunshine will be here soon!  For those of us not tracked out, we have been working very hard to prepare for the return to in-person instruction.  We cannot wait to see our students return to the school building! The purpose of this newsletter is to provide you with information as we start 2nd quarter and return to in-person instruction.

!October 23 - Asynchronous Learning Day!

We will have a school-wide asynchronous learning day on Friday, October 23rd.  The purpose of this asynchronous learning day will be to provide our staff with additional time to prepare for the return of students on Monday, October 26th.  Your child’s teacher will prepare assignments for reading, math, and science/social studies for this day.  Students are expected to submit assignments in order to be counted in attendance for the day.

2nd Quarter Materials Distribution

The 2nd quarter materials distribution is scheduled for October 15 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. and 4:30-6:30, October 16 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., and October 19 from 11:30-12:30.  As of now, the materials are for all students.  Please return any 1st quarter texts provided to you on these days.

Information for Families regarding the Return to School

WCPSS has created a fantastic resource for families regarding the return to in-person instruction. Here is the link: https://www.wcpss.net/Page/33111.  I encourage you to take time to read through this information as many of your questions can be answered.  One particular resource that you can begin sharing with your child to prepare them for the return to school are the videos about the use of face-coverings, washing hands, and social distancing.

Supply Lists for Students Returning to In-Person Instruction

Please see the supply list for students returning to in-person instruction.  You may have purchased items at the start of the school year to support learning at home.  If so, please plan for your child to use these materials at school.  All students will need a plastic pencil box and a reusable water bottle labeled with their name.

Carpool Tags

Carpool tags will be available for pick-up during student distribution.

Meet the Teacher for Students Returning to In-Person Instruction

On Thursday, your classroom teacher will send you a sign-up genius to select a time to visit your classroom prior to the return to in-person instruction.  The purpose of the sign-up is to maintain a safe number of visitors in the building at any given time.  Cohort A and B will have scheduled times on Friday, October 23.  Cohort C will have scheduled times on Tuesday, November 3.  We will complete a health screening on all individuals entering the school.  Everyone will be required to wear a face covering (securely covering the nose, mouth, and chin).  Visitors are limited to one adult and current MCES students.  The purpose of this visit is for you and your child to find their classroom, bring any school supplies, and see all the ways we are working to maintain a healthy school environment.  Parents/visitors will not be allowed in the building after these dates.

Parent Sessions for Students Returning to In-Person Instruction

Parent sessions will be held on 10/13 at 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m and 10/14 at 7:00 p.m. for the parents/guardians of students returning to in-person instruction.  This is the Google Meet link that will be used for all sessions:  meet.google.com/utg-zsdu-xsa

Virtual Academy Schedule Change

There will be minor shifts to the Virtual Academy schedule as we work to balance our specialists across both Virtual Academy and In-Person instruction.  The new schedule will start on Monday, October 26th.  Your classroom teacher will share the changes in the schedule with you.

Enrollment in Virtual Academy for the 2nd Semester

Virtual Academy families will remain in Virtual Academy for the remainder of the semester. Any family wanting to make a change for 2nd semester will have the option to do so when WCPSS releases the Virtual Academy enrollment form in the upcoming days.  All WCPSS families will have the ability to choose to remain in Virtual Academy or return to in-person instruction for the 2nd semester at that time.
