July 9th Update

July 9, 2020

Hello Middle Creek families!

I trust this e-mail finds you doing well during these summer months!

As you probably already know, the WCPSS Board of Education (BOE) made some decisions last week about our return to school. While the decisions provide a framework for our planning, there are many details yet to be worked out. In addition, the specific return date could also be impacted by Governor Cooper’s decision on returning to school. However, I want to make sure you were aware of this latest information.

The School Messenger program will not be updated until next week, so I realize that this information may be going out to many families that are not coming to our school for the 2020-2021 school year. Once the program is updated, only families currently enrolled at MCES will get these updates. However, if your child is going to any WCPSS school, most of the information below would be applicable to you.

If you would like to receive text messages from MCES via School Messenger, please text Yes to 67587.

It is important that we have your most current contact information on file.  If your e-mail address or phone number has changed, please contact Roxanne Carter at 919-773-9555 ext. 21259 or e-mail at

Re-Opening Plans:

The WCPSS presented plans to reopen schools as required by the state for a Plan A (all students on campus with minimal social distancing guidelines), Plan B (a blend of face to face instruction and remote learning, with a high level of social distancing guidelines), and Plan C (full remote learning). Absent any additional guidance from Governor Cooper, the BOE approved the Plan B option for the return to school for the 2020-2021 school year.

Calendar Change:

One major impact for us under the Plan B option to return to school is that multi-track year-round schools will all follow the track 4 calendar.  This means the first day for students will be on Monday, August 17. Should conditions warrant a return to school by all students for face-to-face instruction, most likely we would return to the track assignments at that time. You can access the single track 4 calendar here: Year-round Single Track 4 You can access the 2020-2021 multi-track calendar here: Year-round Multi-track Calendar

Virtual Academy:

In addition to the return under Plan B, the WCPSS BOE also approved a brand-new option to families – a virtual school. This would be a fully online school option and your child would still be enrolled at MCES. More information is available at  Students can register to attend the WCPSS Virtual Academy beginning July 10 through July 20.

Bus and Carpool Transportation:

In order to help our school district prepare for the return to school, please take a moment to review bus transportation protocols.  If you are planning to decline bus transportation for your child/children, please complete the form found here by Monday, July 13th.  This will allow our transportation department to being planning bus routes for each cohort of children attending school under Plan B. If you decline bus transportation and will be carpooling your child/children, please complete the carpool registration form found here.  The registration link is also on our school website.

I encourage you to utilize WCPSS social media accounts through Twitter (@WCPSS) and  Facebook to stay up to date on the most current information related to our return to school.  Our school website, Twitter account (@MiddleCreekES) and PTA App (Middle Creek Elementary) will be updated as new information is learned.

As previously noted, there are many details yet to be worked out. We will be communicating additional information to you in the upcoming weeks as we are able.  Thank you for your continued support of our school community.

Please be safe and enjoy your summer!
