Dear Dragonfly Families,

Hurricane Relief Efforts: We are partnering with Davis Drive Middle School to support those in the Western part of NC who were impacted by the tragic events of Hurricane Helene. They have secured a 50+ foot moving truck to be parked at Davis Drive Middle over the next week and will collect items to be transported directly to the Asheville area. We are also collecting items to support the efforts and if your family would like to help, please see this flier of items requested. You may drop off items directly at Davis Drive Middle or send them to our school on or before 10/9. Thank you for your consideration.

Bullying Awareness Month

Parents, as we bring awareness to Bullying prevention month here at DDMES, our student support team is initiating a campaign that encourages students to Stand Up and Speak Out against bullying.  Some strategies that all students have been taught over the past 2 weeks by Mrs. Guillen and Mr. Hatcher, is to tell a trusted adult if they witness or experience any act of bullying. Students were shown how to leave an anonymous note if needed, but were reminded that there is strength in numbers as we combat any form of bullying as a school community. Please review the other ways students can support our community are:

  • Be a friend to the person who is being bullied

  • Set a good example

  • T.h.i.n.k. about what you are doing (is it true, is it helpful, is it inspiring, is it necessary, is it kind)

How can you help as parents?

  • Contact a school administrator, counselor, social worker or psychologist for help if you notice any concerns with your student

  • Provide positive feedback for children demonstrating appropriate behavior

  • Recognize and address any bullying behavior observed and teach appropriate social skills early(school counselors can help with this)

Encourage your student to wear orange on Wednesday, October 16th to show UNITY against all forms of bullying!
