12/2/22
Hi Families,
It is hard to believe it is already December. This year is flying by. Please see the important reminders listed below. Let's have a fabulous end of 2022 together.
Early Checkouts
As a reminder all students must be checked out prior to 3:15. If you need to pick up your child early, please communicate this to your child’s teacher in advance. This will help checkout be more efficient as we can plan to have the student packed up in advance if they will be in Quests, Lunch, Recess, or World Language at the checkout time.
Change of Transportation in the afternoon
Please make sure you communicate any changes to your child’s dismissal procedures to your child’s teacher via note, Talking Points, or email in the morning. If you do not get confirmation from the teacher, please contact the office. Teachers will not see communication if they are busy teaching, out sick, attending a workshop, etc. Please call the office for ALL last minute changes.
3rd Grade Read to Achieve Parent Information Session
On Tuesday, December 13 from 5:30 - 6:00 PM third grade parents are invited to learn more about the NC Read to Achieve Program and how it directly impacts 3rd grade students. This meeting will take place in the media center.
Student Assignment Notices
Your child should have brought home a student assignment notice this week. Please make sure to read this notice as some of our students have been reassigned to another school. 5th grade notices will have next year’s Middle School Assignment. For our K-4 families that have been reassigned, please review the information on the back of the notice which provides information about student assignment and transfer opportunities. All stability transfers must be completed online by 12/9. Transfer students are not eligible for transportation.
Monday, 12/5 is an Early Release Day
Monday, 12/5 is an Early Release Day. Dismissal begins at 1:45 and all students must be picked up by 2:10 PM.
Positivity Project Trait for the week of 12/5: OPM- Supporting others when they struggle
This week our school community will be focusing on the Other People Mindset of Supporting Others When They Struggle. This means when other people are struggling, we do our best to help them out.
Supporting other people when they struggle is a critical piece of being human. There are many different approaches to helping people who are struggling. These can include: listening while they describe an event and their feelings about it, taking action to help people in need, or simply just being there and sitting together in silence. Everyone faces tough days and needs support, and this support leads to a chain of prosocial behavior that makes us feel good about ourselves and our group.
To practice and encourage the character strength of perspective with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2), where together you will watch a video, read a quote, and talk about the answers to three questions.
Have a wonderful week!
