    Everyday is a great day to be at Rand Road Elementary School.
    • Father/Daughter Dance.  | Thank you to Mrs. Sanford, the PTA committee, and all of the volunteers for making the Father/Daughter Dance such a special night for everyone.
    • Rand Road's PTA. | Rand Road's PTA is truly special and does so much to make our school a wonderful place, not only for our students, bur for our entire school community.
    • Family Digital Academy. | This Thursday, we have our Family Digital Academy beginning at 6:30 and we look forward to seeing you there.
    • Single Subject Acceleration.  Please visit our website for information regarding acceleration of student learning, including dates of informational sessions.

  • Principal's Weekly Message for February 12 - 17, 2018
    This week at Rand Road Elementary School:
    • Bus Driver Appreciation Week.  | We will be encouraging our students to thank our drivers for all they do as they transport them to and from school.
    • Father/Daughter Dance. | Saturday, February 17 is our PTA sponsored Father/Daughter Dance.  Tickets must be purchased in advance for this special affair.
    Thank you to everyone who was able to support the PTA by visiting Sub Station 2 and enjoying a great meal.  I hope you have a great evening and an even better week.

  • Principal's Weekly Message for January 29 - February 2, 2018
    It was a busy and productive track in week at Rand Road.
    • 2nd Quarter Report Cards.  | Be sure to review your child's report card with them and celebrate their successes and their growth.  Also, this is a great time to discuss goals for the 3rd quarter.  Remember to return the signed report card envelope to the school.
    • Rand Road Annual Science Fair. | Congratulations to all students who participated in our largest Science Fair.  We recognize your hard work and creativity and we are extremely proud of you.  The following students were recognized for their outstanding work:
      • 1st place- Ellysen Jens
      • 2nd place- Melissa Bacon & Emma Holcomb
      • 3rd place- Kiley DeHaan
      • Honorable Mentions- Parker Troy, Graysen Gnagy, Talula Brown, and Tilden Griffen. 
    • BYOD Informational Meeting. | Parents of 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students are invited to our Bring Your Own Device Informational Meeting, this Thursday at 6:30 with Dr. Wasko from our district office and members of our school staff.  Please plan to attend to find out how these new procedures will work in our classrooms.

  • Rand Road Principal's Message for January 22, 2018
    Happy New Year & Happy Track In!
    • Spotlight on a Student:  Karson Peacock.  | Congratulations to 5th grader, Karson who will be honored at the WCPSS Board of Education Meeting on Tuesday for being an outstanding Rand Road student.  She is a hardworking, considerate student who is a positive example for others.
    • Teacher of the Year:  Mrs. Jennifer Wood. | First grade teacher, Mrs. Wood was selected by her peers for this prestigious honor.
    • Teacher Assistant of the Year:  Mrs. Ashley Hampton. | Mrs. Hampton has done outstanding work with all grade levels.  Her peers have recognized this and have honored her for her work.
    • 2nd Quarter Report Cards. | Please review report cards being sent home this week.
    • 2018 - 19 Kindergarten Registration. | Registration is now open for the upcoming school year.  Please help us spread the word.

  • Principal's Weekly Message for December 18, 2017
    Congratulations to all of our classroom Spelling Bee Winners who participated in the school bee on Friday.  Evan Burris won the competition, followed by Savannah Lange and Jason Kuvik.  All of the students did an amazing job.  Evan will represent Rand Road in the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee.
    Parents, be sure to look for student assignment strips this week.  This will indicate which base school your child is assigned to for the 2018-19 school year.  I also encourage you to go to the WCPSS website if you need information regarding applying for a transfer or for a seat at one of the magnet schools.  
    This week we have early release on Thursday and we will dismiss at 1:15.  This will begin the winter break for students and they will return to school on January 22.
    It is our hope that you will each have a wonderful holiday and winter break.  Students, remember to keep reading.

  • Principal's Weekly Message for December 4 - 8, 2017
    Good evening.  This is Rhonda Jones, the proud principal of Rand Road Elementary School.   
    • Interim Reports.  | Parents, you should have received your child's interim report last week.  Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have any questions or would like to schedule a conference.
    • Family Digital Academy. | This week we have our third session of our Family Digital Academy.  If you have attended the previous sessions, you will receive your invitation in the Tuesday folder inviting you to the computer distribution session on Thursday, December 7 from 6:00 - 7:30.  Only 5th grade students are required to attend.  Students in other grade levels can resume their regular schedule of eventing events.  Parents, be sure to bring your invitation with you.

  • Principal's Weekly Message for November 27 - December 1, 2017
    It is my hope that each of you have enjoyed the Thanksgiving break and that you have found many reasons to be thankful for.
    • 2ND Quarter Interim Reports | Interim reports will be sent home this week.  Be sure to discuss them with your child.
    • STAR Books. | Each Rand Road student has a STAR Book that includes their person academic and behavioral goals which you should discuss as a family.
    • Volunteers Needed. |  The Rand Road PTA is sponsoring artist in residence, Leni Newell this week.  Ms. Newell will be working with 5Th grade students as they create a batik and we need volunteers.  You do not need to have a 5Th grade student to volunteer.  Please call the main desk at 919-662-2275 if you are able to assist.

    This is Rhonda Jones, the proud principal of Rand Road Elementary School.
    Thank you for supporting Red Ribbon Week and for attending our Inter-skate Family Night.

    Remember, this week is a very short week.  We have early release on Tuesday and we dismiss at 1:15.
    We want you to know that we are very thankful for you and your children and from the entire faculty and staff of Rand Road, we wish you a Happy and safe Thanksgiving.

  • Principal's Weekly Message for November 6 - 10, 2017
    Rand Road is an amazing place to work and learn.  Thanks to our many adult and student volunteers, it's also a beautiful place.  The Fall Beautification Day was a huge success and the grounds are even more beautiful.  Thank you also to those who were able to participate in our first Fall Family picnic.  The weather was just perfect.
    • PTA Board Meeting Monday at 6:00 .  | The meetings are open to everyone.  Come share your ideas and hear committee reports about previous activities or upcoming events.
    • School Improvement Committee Meeting Wednesday at 8:00. | You are invited to join us for our SIP meeting.  We will continue discussing our achievement data, as well as the action steps we are taking toward achieving our goal.
    • Veteran's Day is Friday. | School is closed as we honor those who have served our country.
    Other reminders for the week:
    We will continue to collect candy for our treats for troops campaign through Tuesday, November 7.
    If you plan to order your child's artwork through the Square 1 Art, orders are due Wednesday, November 8.

  • Principal's Weekly Message

    Last week was a productive first week back from track out.  This week is going to be busy as well.  
    • Fall Book Fair.  | We have our Fall Book Fair all week, with Family Night on Thursday from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M.  While you're at the Book Fair, stop by the gym to get ideas and free materials for the upcoming Science Fair. 
    • Fall Make Up  & Club Pictures. | If you missed pictures the first time, be sure to come prepared with a big smile on your face.  All student groups will also take pictures.
    • Rand Road Pelican's Party. | On Tuesday, following lunch, students and staff will enjoy a treat from our PTA for reaching our goal for the Rand Road Run.
    • Treats for Troops Campaign. |  Our annual campaign begins on Wednesday.  We are accepting candy donations which will be sent to military personnel as a small token of our appreciation for their service to our country.
    • Garner Educational Foundation's STARS on Stage. |  Mrs. Board, our music specialist, will accompany our RRES Drum Circle as they perform at Garner High School on Thursday at 6:30.  Everyone is invited.
    • PTA Fall Beautification. |  On Saturday, from 9:00 - 11:00, we have our Fall Beautification.  We will have fun as we spruce up our campus. 
    • First Fall Family Picnic. |  We hope you all will join us for this fun time of fellowship as a school community.  Bring your blanket and picnic basket, rain or shine. The picnic is from 11:30 - 1:00.

  • Principal's Weekly Message for September 25 - 29, 2017

     

    • The Rand Road PTA thanks everyone for the very successful Rand Road Run.  Please continue to send in pledges this week.
    • PTA Meeting: The WCPSS Board of Education has proposed changing the RRES calendar to traditional for the 2018 - 19 school year.  Rand Road PTA has scheduled a meeting for Tuesday, September 26 at 6:00 P.M. to hear from you.
    • WCPSS and the Carolina Hurricanes have teamed up to promote reading.  Look for information coming home about this rewarding initiative.
    • Early Release:  On Friday, September 29 students will be dismissed at 1:15 so that our staff may participate in professional development.
    • Track out:  Students will track out on Friday and will return to school on October 23, 2017.

    Enjoy your track out and remember to read some great books while you are out.

  • Principal's Message for the Week of September 18 - 22, 2017

    Thank you for your support as we brought the Rand Road Run back to our school.  With the help of many volunteers, our community sponsors, and each of you, the event was a huge success.  The PTA continues to accept pledges.

    • This week, we have our school improvement meeting and you're invited to join us.  We will meet Wednesday morning from 8 - 8:45 and your input is greatly appreciated.
    • On Thursday, we have the second session of our Family Digital Academy beginning at 6:00.
    • The PTA will count Boxtops and they're asking that they be sent in by Friday.

    Lastly, the Wake County School Board will begin discussing possible adjustments to our school calendar for next year.  Information will be shared as soon as it becomes available.

    It's going to be another busy week at Rand Road.


    Reminders for dismissal: If you need to change your child's transportation, please send in a note to the teacher.  Also, keep in mind that we halt all dismissal in the event of unsafe conditions such as lightening, and will resume as soon as it is safe to do so.  Thank you for your patience as we strive to keep your children safe.

    This week we have fall pictures on Tuesday.  Also on Tuesday, look for this year's first edition of the PTA Newsletter to come home in the Tuesday folder.


    Thursday at 6:00 PM we have a PTA board meeting.  We encourage you to attend this open meeting and see how you can get involved.


    Friday is our Rand Road Run, our PTA sponsored fund-raiser and we look forward to seeing you then.

    Thank you to everyone who attended our first Family Digital Academy.  I hope that you found the session informative and that the students enjoyed their activities.

    • Pep Rally:  We will have our first pep rally of the school year this Friday as the kick off for our upcoming Rand Road Run.
    • Rand Road Run:  Information will be sent home with details for our upcoming school-wide fundraiser and celebration.  Please plan to attend on Friday, September 15.
    • Volunteers Needed:  If you have not already done so, please stop by the school office and register as a volunteer.  We need volunteers throughout the school year and would love to have your help.

  • Principal's Weekly Message for August 28 - September 1, 2017

    Announcements for this week:

    • We are at the mid point in the quarter which means that teachers will be sending interim reports home this week.
    • We have the first session of our Family Digital Academy this Thursday from 6:00 - 7:30 P.M.  Remember to turn in your form indicating that you and your child will be participating.  Additional forms are available in the main office.  Just for attending 5 of the 6 sessions, your child will receive their very own computer.
    • Every Friday is Rand Road School Spirit Day.  We are encouraging everyone to wear their school spirit wear.
    • Remember to register as a volunteer.  We need lots of volunteers for our upcoming Rand Road Run on September 15.  We need you.

  • PRINCIPAL'S WEEKLY MESSAGE FOR AUGUST 14-18, 2017

    REMINDERS FOR THIS WEEK

    • 3rd grade Students will take the BOGs.  | At the beginning of 3rd grade, students take a test similar to the EOGs.  It serves as a benchmark that will allow us to be able to determine how much growth students make over the course of this year.  Tests will be computer-based this year and will occur on Tuesday and Wednesday.
    • School Improvement Plan Committee Meeting. | We are in the 2nd year of our current plan and we will be discussing our progress toward our goals and action steps that we will take this school year to ensure that our students are successful.  This week we will meet on Wednesday from 8:00 - 8:45 and you are invited to join us.  All of our SIP meetings are open to everyone.
    • PTA OPEN HOUSE.  We hope that you will be able to join us for our PTA Open House this Thursday at 6:00.  We will begin with a general session in the multi-purpose room and then we have two classroom sessions, allowing parents the opportunity to visit two different classrooms. Come hear about the great things that are going on in the school and classrooms.
    • Early Release/Dismissal on Friday at 1:15 . | This Friday, students will be dismissed from school at 1:15.  Teachers will have the opportunity to participate in staff development for the remainder of the afternoon.  If you are interested in using the after-school care program during this time, contact the main office for more information.  Parents may elect to only use the service on early release days with pro-rated fees.

    We are excited about the year ahead and the work that we will do together to support our students.

  • Rand Road Principal's Weekly Message for August 7, 2017

    We've completed our first week of school and tomorrow we will welcome our kindergarten students.  We are excited for this new school year and for all of the wonderful learning opportunities that await.

    • Locator Cards: Be sure to return completed locator cards for your child/children.  This allows us to have access to the most current information for your child, including phone numbers, special instructions, etc.
    • PTA Board Meeting:  This Thursday, we have an open PTA Board meeting, in which we will elect officers for vacant positions.  We will meet at 6:00 in the Media Center. 
    • Family Night at Interskate:  The PTA is sponsoring this family event as a way for families to meet and greet one another.  Please join the fun.

    It's going to be another great year at Rand Road and we are committed to making it the best year yet because our students deserve it!
