    6th grade

Today we will be reviewing for a test on equations which will be tomorrow.  Once we are done with equations we will begin learning how to write and solve inequalities.  These are similar to equations so I don't anticipate too much trouble with the transition.

    7th Grade

We will be contining with unit 3 this week.  I anticipate having the test over the unit by the beginning of next week.  Everyone did well on the quiz last week so I want to keep the learning going strong.

    8th Grade

Wednessday is PSAT day so please make sure your students are well rested and dont forget pizza money.  As for the rest of the week, we will be working on breaking down quadratic functions and learning about non linear equations.

    6th Grade

This week we will be continuing to learn about equations, we will be taking what we have learned already and stretching our abilities to include multi step equations and equations with variables on both sides.

    7th Grade

We have started unit 3 as of today.  This unit begins the study of how funtions relate to each other and how functions can be explained with a story.

    8th Grade

These students will be learning the quadratic formula (be listening for the sounds of me sining coming from their HW video tonight!) and we will be using what I refer to as the magic formula, this is something they used last year.  We use angry birds as examples for a lot of what we do in class right now so if you ask what they learned in math class and they tell you we talked about angry birds its true!

Also starting this week and for the rest of the year I will be sending home weekly math review to help them stay on track for end of year exams.  If you had me last year this will look familiar.

    6th grade

This is going to be a busy week! We are taking the perfect squares quiz on Monday and then reviewing for the unit 3 test which I am hoping to take on Tuesday.  Unit 3 covers addiing, subtracting, multiplying and dividing both decimals and fractions with and without negatives.  Students must also be able to convert back and forth between decimasl and fractions.  Upon completeing unit 3 we will jump into unit 4 which is a very fast unit only consisting of 3 pieces of content, the distributive property, combining like terms and writing algebraic expressions.  That test comes very fast and then we move right into equations.

    7th grade

After taking a break from our normal curriculum we will get back into this week and we will finish up unit 2.  I plan to give a test by Friday if all goes well.

    8th Grade

All students will begin working on unit 2 which is the start of quadratic functions.  They did learn some of this last year but we will be extending this knowledge this year after refreshing their memories of the skill.

    6th Grade

TOday and tomorrow  all tracks will be working on operations with scientific notation.  Starting on Wednesday, track 1 will begin working on 1 step equations and tracks 3 and 4 will be working with decimal operations.

    7th Grade

Track 1 will spend the time between now and track out working on  reinforcing some basic skills such as exponent rules, slope and the pythagorean theorem, I don't want to start unit 3 before they track out.

Track 3 and 4 are beginning unit 2 this week and will be working to catch up with track 2 when they return.

    8th Grade

Track 1 is working on simplifying radicals at many levels this week, we started at the 8th grade level today adn will work up to the math 2 level, its not so easy.  We will end the week learning the quadratic equation.  Tracks 3 and 4 are taking the unit 1 test and the working with functions.

    6th Grade

This week track 1 will be tackling unit 4.  We will work on combining like terms on monday, the distributive property on Tuesday, and writing expressions on Wednesday.  On Thursday we will review and on Friday there will be a quiz.  Unit 4 is that quick and easy.  Tracks 3 and 4 will be finishing up unit 2 studying power to a power, zero and negative exponents, and scientific notation.  On Thursday they will review and there will be a test on Friday.

    7th Grade

Tracks 3 and 4 are having a test on Tuesday of this week.  We spent today reviewing unit 1 so that they can they will be ready.  After that they will jump  into unit 2.  Track 1 should be ready for a test sometime around Wednesday or Thursday of this week.

    8th Grade

Track 1 will be taking a quiz on Wednesday covering factoring using GCF, difference of squares, and FOIL.  They will begin to use hard and easy case this week as well.  Track 3 is going to be working with function notation.  Track 4 will be working on geometric concepts.

    6th Grade

Track 1 will be finishing the unit of study dealing with rational numbers this week There will be a test on Thursday.  From there we will begin to learn about expressions and the distributive property.  This sets us up to begin learning equations.  Track 4 will be presenting their timelines today and will then begin learning about the rules of exponents.

    7th Grade

Tracks 1 and 2 should be finishing up unit 2 this week and will have a test either Friday or at the beginning of next week (it will depend on the early release schedule)  Track 4 will be finishing unit 1 and will have a test the beginning of next week when track 3 returns.

    8th Grade

All tracks will be finishing up the unit on funtion notation and should be ready for a test by Wednesday.  From there tracks 1 and 2 will begin studying quadratics and track 4 will begin studying triangles.

    6th grade

Track 1 will be starting the unit on Rational numbers this week.  In this unit we very quickly go over fractions and decimals, (I expect students in my class to have pretty good background knowledge on these topics) what does dffentiate this from the way other 6th grade classes are teaching these topics is that I have them using negative numbers while they do decimal and fraction problems.  We will also begin working with cube and square roots.

Track 4 will continue to work with integers and will have a quiz on integers on Wednesday.  Also I have assiigned a project that will be due on August 14.

    7th Grade

Track 1 and 2 will continue to work on discrete and continuous linear and exponential functions.  Track 4 will be working on learning arithmetic and geometric sequences.  There will be a quiz this week.

    8th grade

All tracks will be working on geometric and arithmetic sequences and learning function notation.

    6th grade

This week we have been presenting our timeline projects.  The kids did a great job on these!  We will be working on all of the rules of exponents next.  These rules will be learned this year but since they are an 8th grade objective only basic exponents will be on the test which will be next week for track 1.

    7th grade

We have been working on types sequences and learning to write recursive and explicit functions.  We have also been learning the difference between an arithmetic and geometric function.  there will be another quiz this week and a test at the beginning of next week.

    8th grade

We have started working on some true geometry concepts.  Today we started learning how to set up proofs and we have been working on all of the theorems and postulates that belong in geometry.

    8th grade

All tracks are spending class time reviewing for both the final exam and the EOG.  MOst of your stuents are also working on math 8 EOG review in gear up so I am putting more class focus on MATH 2.

    7th Grade

Track 4 will review and have a test on Thursday of this week covering the statistics unit.  After that they will begin reviewing for the EOC.  Tracks 1 and 2 have already begun to review fo rthe EOC.  We will also be spending some time fucusing on EOG review.

    6th Grade

1 and 2 have officially finished all units of study for the year and now all that left is to review for the EOG.  Track 4 still needs to finish up 2 more units.  I will be spending some time with them in gear to complete this as well as working on it in class.  One of the units that is left to be completed is statistics which is important for the EOG and for MATh 1 next year so I want them to have a great understanding of it.
