Track 1 will continue to learn about 2 and 3 dimensional figures this week.  We will be working with area, volume and surface area.  We took a quiz on Friday and it seems a though everyone has a good understanding of area and 2D figures.  We will be having a pop quiz at some point this week over the volume and surface area formulas so oI have been stressing to the students how important it is that everyone pay attention in class and take good notes.

Track 4 will miss a couple of days of class this week due to benchamrks.  Tomorrow they will take their test on slope.  After completing the test they will begin work on the area and volume unit.

Tracks 1 and 2 Will continue to work through unit 6 which connects algebra with geometry.  This unit teaches the basics such as Pythagorean theorem, the distance formula and the midpoint formula.  We will also do some work with transformations.

Track 4 will be completing their test over unit 5 and then beginning work on unit 6.

Track 1 and 2 will be completing the unit 5 test on Trigonometry, while track 4 continues to learn trig.  Once the test is complete, we will begin learning about Probability.  Track 4 will be missing some class this week due to benchmarks.

This week track 1 will continue to work on area of composite figures and they will begin to work with 3D figures learning about volume and surface area.  Track 4 will be continuing their work with slope and linear equations.

Tracks 1 and 2 will continue to learn about the relationship betwenn algebra and geometry, this includes skills such as the distance formula and the pythagorean theorem.  Track 4 will be finishing up the unit on systems of equations and they will be taking the test by the end of the week.

Tracks 1 and 2 will be finishing up the unit on trigonometry.  We will review today and then take the test.  Due benchmarks, I will only have track 1 in class 3 out of 5 days this week so that is all we will be doing.  Track 4 will continue to work on the trigonometry unit.

I will be out this week but I am leaving your children in very capable hands.  A retured DRMS math teacher and good freind of mine will be here to ensure that great instruction will continue.

All grade levels and tracks will be working to prepare for upcoming benchmarks so 6th grade will be doing 6th grade math, 7th grade will be doing 7th grade math, and 8th grade will be doing 8th grade math.  Each grade level will be reviewing what the curriculum says they should have learned if they were taking the grade level class this year.  It should be easy for them but also a very good review for the benchmark and the EOG.

Happy New Year!

This week all track will begin learning about slope and how to write and graph eqautions of lines.  This is a very important unit that lets me know who is ready for Math 1 next year.

We will continue to work with different systems of equations and inequalities.  We began this study prior to break.

We are beginning the trigonometry unit this week.  This is my favorite unit of the year!

• # Week of December 4-8

Posted by Nicole Earnest on 12/4/2017 8:40:00 AM

Today all tracks will be taking a test on decimals and percents.  We will spend the rest of this week working on percent applications which includes topics such as the percent proportion, percent of change, tax, discount and interest.

We completed unit 4 last week so we will now begin working with systems of equations and inequalities.  There are 3 ways to solve systems that I expect your children to be able to solve, they are graphing, substitution and elimination.  So these are the topics that are ahead of us.

The first half of unit 3 is now behind us so now we will be working with the second half which includes some review tipics such as growth and decay and compound interest but we will also be getting into logarithms and that will be new territory.

Track 1 is beginning to work on the slope unit, we will do the easy parts of it this week and then get into the hard part when they return in January.

Tracks 3 and 4 are working with rates, ratios and proportions this week and will test on it next week.

Track 1 is working on unit 5 this week and will take a quiz on Wednesday, we will get to a good stopping point before they go out on Friday.  Tracks 3 and 4 will also have a quiz on Wednesday and there will be a unit 4 test on Friday.

Everyone spent today reviewing and will be taking a test tomorrow.  After that Track 1 will begin working with trigonometry and tracks 3 and 4 will begin working on the second half of unit 3.

• # Week of November 6-9

Posted by Nicole Earnest on 11/6/2017 1:10:00 PM

This week track 1 will be working with percent applications.  The way I explain ot to them is that everything we do in class this week is stuff that they will actually be able to use in real life, this like simple interest and tax and discount.  track 4 will be working on inequalities.

Everyone took a quiz today and the grades are awesome!  We will be reviewing for tests tomorrow and the test will take place on Wednesday and Thursday.  Its not that the test is all that long but our class period is shortened on wednesday so I am planning two days in order for the kdis to be able to take their time.

Tracks 1 and 2 will be taking a test on the first part of unit 3 on Thursday.  This involves exponents, radicals and equations involving both.  Track 4 will be reviewing for the unit 2 test this week and hopefully starting on that by Thursday.

• # Week of October 30-November 3

Posted by Nicole Earnest on 10/31/2017 2:00:00 PM

This week track 1 will be finishing up the unit on rates, ratios and proportions and will be taking the test on Thursday.  They will then begin the unit that I call percent application.  Track 4 will be completing the unit on equations and they will also have a test on Thursday.  They will then begin to study inequalities.

Everyone started the week off with a quiz on Monday.  Everyone did well!  Tracks 1 and 2 had a quiz on the forst 3 sections of unit 4 which is all about equations including literal equaions which in proving to be a bit of a challenge.  Track 4 is learning about features of a function.  After pausing today to do some Halloween math involving using the slope of a line to strike through a zombie we will be back to our usual tomorrow working with functions and equations.

Tracks 1 and 2 are working on exponential functions and the rules that apply to them.  Some of this has a famliar feel as we review the rules we have previouly worked with and apply them in new ways.  We will soon be learning logarithms which will be new territory.   Track 4 is continuing to work their way through the quadratics unit and will have a quiz on Friday on Non linear functions.

Posted by Nicole Earnest on 10/9/2017 8:30:00 AM

Today we will be reviewing for a test on equations which will be tomorrow.  Once we are done with equations we will begin learning how to write and solve inequalities.  These are similar to equations so I don't anticipate too much trouble with the transition.

We will be contining with unit 3 this week.  I anticipate having the test over the unit by the beginning of next week.  Everyone did well on the quiz last week so I want to keep the learning going strong.

Wednessday is PSAT day so please make sure your students are well rested and dont forget pizza money.  As for the rest of the week, we will be working on breaking down quadratic functions and learning about non linear equations.

• # Week of October 2-6

Posted by Nicole Earnest on 10/2/2017 2:00:00 PM

This week we will be continuing to learn about equations, we will be taking what we have learned already and stretching our abilities to include multi step equations and equations with variables on both sides.

We have started unit 3 as of today.  This unit begins the study of how funtions relate to each other and how functions can be explained with a story.
