Request A Transfer For the Current Year (2014-15)
Families that are new to Wake County or existing families who change addresses may request a transfer within 10 business days of receiving their official notices of assignment.
Transfer requests will be accepted from July 1, 2014, and April 30, 2015. To apply, please complete a transfer application (Transfer application: English | Español) and follow instructions on the form to submit your request.
How students are selected: Whether requests will be granted depends on many factors, including the capacity of the school you are requesting and the nature of hardship caused to your family by the current assignment. Circumstances may include childcare, student health concerns, children of school employees seeking the same school or calendar as the parent, parents seeking aligned calendars for siblings, or parents moving to a new home. Review Board Policy 6203 for details.
Transportation: If your transfer request is granted, you'll be responsible for your child's transportation to school unless the transfer school is the base school or one of the calendar option schools for your address. See Board Policy 7105-E for information regarding possible transportation for ineligible students.
Participation in high school athletics: A student granted a voluntary transfer has a 365-day waiting period before participating in high school athletic activities at the new school. Students entering ninth grade for the first time are eligible to participate in athletic activities and are not required to file an appeal. The waiting period may be appealed in writing using the athletics transfer appeal form: English, Español. Email form to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Appeal a denied transfer requestFamilies who made their request within 10 days of their initial notice of assignment have the right to appeal to the Board of Education. Mail or deliver in-person your request to the Office of Student Assignment, 5625 Dillard Drive, Cary, NC 27518. Or, email your request to email@example.com.
