Planning for the future: Learn about the 2026 bond issue

The Wake County Board of Commissioners has approved the addition of a school bond referendum to ballots this November. This general obligation bond issue would account for $680 million in funding for the Capital Improvement Program (CIP), the majority of which is allocated toward renovating and improving existing school facilities. 53 schools to offer free meals for all students in 2026–27

Nine additional schools will participate in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) during the 2026–27 school year, bringing the district total to 53 schools. Through this federal program, all enrolled students at participating schools receive free breakfast and lunch, and families are not required to complete a meal benefits application. The new participating schools are Brier Creek Elementary, Powell Magnet Elementary, Reedy Creek Elementary, Carroll Magnet Middle, Durant Road Middle, East Wake High, Knightdale High, South Garner High, and Garner High. Apply for free and reduced-price school meals 

To receive free or reduced-price meals for the 2026-27 school year, families must submit a meal benefits application online at MySchoolApps.com. For families who completed the 2025-26 meal benefits application, the benefit continues for their student's first 30 school days of the 2026-27 school year. Learn more.

Our Child Nutrition Services team is hiring and invites interested candidates to register for their job fair on Saturday, July 18 at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High. From 9 to 11 a.m., candidates can learn more about opportunities available in school nutrition, meet our team, apply for open roles. Attendees are encouraged to bring a resume if they have one available and create an account prior to arrival to apply for open roles.
