Base Schools

All students in Wake County are assigned to a "Base School." Find your base school using our address look-up tool.

Note: Some schools have an enrollment cap. Even if your base school is capped, you will still register for your base school. Learn more about capped schools.

For the best experience, use a desktop computer or laptop to complete the enrollment. If you're unable to complete the process online, contact your base school’s data manager. A school representative will call you to assist with enrollment.

After you complete the online form, wait for your base school to contact you with the next steps. You can speed up the process by uploading these documents:

1. A certified copy of your child's birth certificate. (Need a birth certificate? Parents of children born in Wake County may order certified birth certificates on the Wake County Register of Deeds website.)
2. Proof of your Wake County address (domicile) in the name of the birth parent or legal custodian, which must be one of the following:
   • A current water, gas, or electric bill that is no more than 30 days old,
   • A newly signed lease that is no more than 60 days old,
   • A Settlement statement that is no more than 60 days old or
   • An Offer to Purchase Agreement. If you're using an Offer to Purchase Agreement, note that:
     • Current Wake County residents may use an Offer to Purchase to enroll a student, but the closing date must be within 45 days of enrollment.
     • Non-Wake County residents may use them only to pre-enroll for the next school year and only if the pre-enrollment happens before June 30, and  if the closing date is on or before June 30.
     • If your home is under construction, you may be asked to provide additional documentation showing work completed.
     • They may not be used as proof of residence to enroll or pre-enroll at schools with an enrollment cap those that are designated as overcrowded. 
3. A photo ID of the birth parent or legal custodian
4. Your child's immunization record
5. Any custody documents

North Carolina law requires all new public school students to have:

• A completed N.C. Health Assessment Form within 12 months of starting school

• Proof of required vaccinations for:

  • Kindergarten

  • 7th grade

  • 12th grade meningococcal booster (new requirement)
