Base Schools

Students playing on the floor in an elementary classroom

Your community school, called a “base school,” provides a strong academic foundation for your child.

Every family is assigned to one base school based on their home address. These schools are the heart of our communities—where students form friendships, families connect, and learning accelerates. When your child attends their base school, they’re welcomed into a supportive environment where they are known, valued, and supported to reach their full potential.

Base schools provide a solid academic path for Wake County students. Through the North Carolina Standard Course of Study, students build essential skills in core subjects while also engaging in the arts, athletics, and career and technical education (CTE). This well-rounded experience prepares students to succeed in college, careers, and life.

Our schools prioritize social-emotional learning and personalized instruction—helping students build confidence, discover their strengths, and grow in areas where they need more support. Every classroom is designed to spark curiosity, strengthen skills, and prepare students for a bright future.
