• About Our School

West Millbrook Magnet Middle School is a well-established, traditional calendar magnet middle school located on an expansive campus in North Raleigh.  Throughout its forty-plus year history, families have chosen to move into the West Millbrook school assignment area because it is known for its excellent academic and extra-curricular programs, along with its caring and supportive staff who genuinely enjoy working with teens

On October 17, 2017, the Wake County Board of Education voted to magnetize West Millbrook Magnet Middle School and authorized the school to pursue authorization as an International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP).  Currently, an IBMYP candidate school, West Millbrook Magnet Middle School is excited about the journey of becoming an IB World School. IBMYP information can be found on the IB website, click here.

West Millbrook Magnet Middle School boasts an exceptional arts program which includes band, orchestra, dance, visual arts and theatre. World Languages offered at West Millbrook Magnet Middle School include Spanish, French and Chinese.  A wide array of career and technical education courses and a vibrant career development program also support student growth and engagement. In addition to regular classrooms, our large campus provides the opportunity for outdoor learning spaces, as well as an outdoor classroom.

Students identified as "exceptional children" are served throughout the school through a differentiated instruction model, which focuses on academic relevance and rigor for everyone. Academically gifted students are clustered in groups of ten to fifteen within their language arts and math classes.

Outside of these academic programs, West Millbrook students have opportunities to participate in a wide variety of sports and clubs that focus on enriching the students' middle school experience and preparing them for life beyond adolescence. The certified staff consists of a principal, three assistant principals, three guidance counselors, a teacher librarian, a career development coordinator, an instructional facilitator, an academically gifted coordinator, and an instructional staff of approximately 70 teachers and assistants. Many faculty members hold Master's degrees in their emphasis areas and several hold National Board Certifications.
