Ms. Corrody has been in education for over 30 years. She originally received her Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Hofstra University and her Master’s degree in Education from Long Island University. As well as teaching in elementary and middle school, Ms. Corrody has also worked at the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, DC, the New York State Education Department in Brooklyn, NY and as an Assistant Professor in Education for California State University (Chico) and West Chester University (PA). With all of this experience, Ms. Corrody always returns to the classroom where she loves to work with her students and their teachers and parents. Ms. Corrody enjoys teaching English as a Second Language where she feels the students teach her as much as she teaches them. When Ms. Corrody is not teaching, she can be found reading, gardening, crafting, cooking, traveling, and spending time at home with her husband and three cats.
Ms. VonDerHeide- Literacy Coach/ IRT
Mrs. VonDerHeide (Mrs. V) supports K-2 literacy instruction at Brier Creek. Mrs. VonDerHeide has taught sixteen years and her teaching experience includes kindergarten, first, and second grade. This is Mrs. VonDerHeide’s second year at Brier Creek. She is grateful for the opportunity to work with such amazing staff, students, and families. Mrs. VonDerHeide earned both her Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. In 2008, she earned her National Board Certification.
Mrs. VonDerHeide believes her purpose is to create a learning environment where all students feel supported academically, socially, and emotionally. She believes that student success is created through meaningful relationships and collaboration between staff, students, and families.
Outside of school, Mrs. VonDerHeide enjoys shopping, reading, and relaxing by the pool or at the beach. She enjoys spending time with her husband Kenny and son Christopher. Together they enjoy traveling, fishing, riding bikes, playing games, and watching movies.
