Mrs. Perez has taught at Brier Creek for ten years now! Before that, she taught for nearly a dozen years in Southern California. That's also where she obtained her Masters Degree in reading and language arts education from the California State University in Los Angeles. Though she's taught nearly every elementary grade at some point in her career, fourth grade holds a special place in her heart. It's a year of enormous growth and she feels lucky to be able to work with students at such a pivotal stage in their lives.
Mrs. Perez teaches because she wants to empower children to create a better world--one that is more just, peaceful, and joyful. Her favorite part of her job is sharing great books with students, especially when she can read them aloud. She believes in the power of good stories to touch hearts and change lives. However, she also enjoys the variety of subjects she gets to teach. She loves the moment when a math lesson clicks and something that was impossible for a child just a day ago suddenly becomes doable. She loves the excitement of a hands-on science lesson when students get to make their own discoveries. And she loves the challenge of social studies projects that allow students to collaborate and to use some of the technology resources available at Brier Creek.
Outside of school, Mrs. Perez spends as much time as she can with her family. The Perez household includes her husband and two daughters, Aurora and Elia, who are also Brier Creek Jets. In her spare time, Mrs. Perez likes to write. She has completed two novels for young people and is busy with a third. She likes daydreaming about the day when those books could be on the shelves of her own classroom!

Mrs. Williams is joining Brier Creek this year. This will be her 6th year teaching. During her time as a teacher she has taught various grade levels ranging from 2nd to 4th grade. She also had the opportunity to teach an all boys class. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Winston Salem State University and her Master’s from Gardner Webb University.
Mrs. Williams hopes to be able to inspire her students to want to learn and experience new things during the 2018-2019 school year. She believes that all students can learn and deserve a quality education. She understands the need to differentiate for her students, in order to meet them where they are in their education journey. This school year will be exciting as Mrs. Williams and her students embark on an exciting educational journey.
In her leisure time she enjoys spending time with family. She and her husband Quentin welcomed their first child, Kendrick in December. They enjoy traveling and crossing items off of their bucket list. What adventure will they conquer next?
This is Mrs.Woodruff’s first year at Brier Creek Elementary and she knows it is the best school around. She just moved to the Raleigh/Durham area and is excited to be at such a great school with amazing staff, students, and parental support. Mrs. Woodruff has 13 years of teaching experience where she has taught kindergarten, first, third, and fourth grades. She has also been a middle school and high school coach. As a lifelong learner, she earned her undergraduate degree from Elon University where she was a NC Teaching Fellow and then her Master’s Degree from UNC-Chapel Hill in K-12 Literacy (Go Heels!). Afterwards, she obtained her National Board Certification and is continuing her education at Gardner-Webb University in the graduate program to receive her Doctoral in Education and Organizational Leadership.
Mrs.Woodruff believes her purpose is to inspire children to always do their best. She knows how important it is for students to have a strong educational foundation they can build upon to graduate as a citizen of strong goals, morals, knowledge, and well-being. Because of this philosophy, she plans to ensure all students have the opportunity to learn in their individualized capacity and help them obtain the knowledge and skills essential to achieving their full potential and being productive citizens. This year she looks forward to meeting her new students and learning each one of them and their many personalities and learning styles. She loves seeing her students smile and feel successful. She knows to achieve these goals, she must use her abilities to communicate with parents, give students academic and emotional support, implement best practices for instruction, and create a warm and nurturing learning environment for all students.
When she is not teaching, Mrs. Woodruff loves to be at the beach with a good book. She is married to the Superintendent of Falls Lake State Recreation Area with their two children. Riley is 8 years old and in the 3rd grade at Brier Creek, while her little sister Kynlee just turned 1, is in daycare, and always “on the go.” Not only are their human babies, but fur babies as well with 3 dogs (Karma, Oscar, and Slate), 2 cats (Zoe and Bella), 1 guinea pig (Lilly), and 1 bearded dragon (Ollie). The Woodruff crew is all moved in to the area and extremely excited about joining the Brier Creek family!!
