Ashley Baldwin is excited to start her fourth year teaching elementary music and her second year at Brier Creek. Ms. Baldwin loves Brier Creek Elementary because every time she walks in the door she feels a culture that supports the staff, students, and members of the community. Ms. Baldwin graduated from Western Carolina University where she was a member of the "Pride of the Mountains" marching band. Being a part of the band provided numerous opportunities such as a chance to march for the Carolina Panthers, in the Macy's Day parade, at the Colts and Falcons stadium, and much more.
Ms. Baldwin’s goal in education is to inspire students to find their passion in life so it can guide them throughout their journey to becoming productive citizens of society! She is passionate about inspiring children to have a love and appreciation for all types of music. Ms. Baldwin loves seeing the joy on student’s faces when they are excited to come sing, play instruments and perform in her classroom. She looks forward to continue to provide enrichment opportunities to students to help them achieve a well-rounded education. She believes that her passion for music and her ability to nurture a safe environment in her classroom will help her students thrive in her classroom. Outside of school, you can find Ms. Baldwin involved in numerous activities. She loves to be outdoors and is always finding new adventures to get herself into. Within the last year or so she has decided to try rock climbing. She frequents Triangle Rock Club and loves the thrill of climbing difficult routes while getting exercise in the process. Ms. Baldwin also plays trumpet for the Durham Community Band which provides the opportunity for her to perform again. When Ms. Baldwin is not out and about you can find her at home with her two cats, Cali and Lilli.
This is Ms. Hendricks’ 4th year as Media Coordinator of Brier Creek! She loves Brier Creek because of the diverse and supportive community and the passion for each student to grow as an individual. Ms. Hendricks has 20 years experience as a Media Coordinator and Public Librarian. She has worked for Wake County Schools the majority of her career where she began in 1996 as a Teacher Assistant for over 2 years. Ms. Hendricks earned her Masters of Library and Information Sciences from North Carolina Central University and a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from University of Michigan. Mrs. Hendricks grew up in Flint, Michigan without a school library until high school and didn’t have access to public libraries. Her world opened up to Children’s Literature when she became a mom and realized she didn’t know anything about children’s books and desired to be a better mother, so she enrolled in Children’s Literature for “fun” and found her passion! Libraries are magical! She has helped many parents and children find their passion to become readers! Ms. Hendricks is an empty nester as her only child Georgina is an adult now! Her husband who was also a teacher died in 2006 due to a brain tumor. She spends her free time with friends, traveling, learning to kayak, listening to music and hiking!
Ms. Huber- Technology IA
This will be Ms Huber's second year working at Brier Creek Elementary School! She was a Teacher Assistant for First grade last year before she moved over to assisting in Technology. While she has moved over to Technology, Ms Huber is also presently working on her Masters Degree in Instructional Design and Technology to further expand her knowledge and skill set in the classroom. She is highly motivated, enthusiastic, and a dedicated educator who wants all the students to be successful learners! Ms Hubers' main objective is to inspire learning the content as well as developing the skills necessary for students to explore content and draw intelligent conclusions independently. She is committed to inspiring this critical exploration through stimulating teamwork among each other in the classroom, being aware of different learning styles, assisting in teaching across technology, providing individualized accommodations, involving students in goal setting where appropriate, and being able to recognize and seize the moment when teachable moments occur.
Ms. Piltzer- Steps 2 Success
Ms. Piltzer is excited to teach Steps to Success this year at Brier Creek Elementary. This will be her fifth year at Brier Creek Elementary and her fifteenth year involved with elementary education. Ms. Piltzer has spent most of her years in education as an instructional assistant with first and second grade. Her passion is supporting students through planning and preparing learning activities that take account of the needs and well-being of individual learners as well as groups of learners. Ms. Piltzer earned her Bachelor’s degree in Finance from the University of Massachusetts. Ms. Piltzer believes that social and emotional learning is important for all students as they learn to appreciate their strengths and build positive relationships with their peers, teachers and the community. By incorporating curriculum from the Second Step Program and the Positivity Project, students will be taught self awareness, skills for success in the classroom, empathy toward others, healthy emotional self-management, and problem solving skills.
Outside of school, Ms. Piltzer enjoys reading, cooking and traveling with her husband. She can be found frequently visiting her three grown children who were her inspiration to become interested in education.
Mr. Revere-PEThis is Mr. Revere’s first year as the Physical Education Teacher for Brier Creek. He is very excited for this opportunity to work with such amazing staff and wonderful students this school. This will be Mr. Revere’s third year working with Wake County School System as a Physical Education Teacher, and he has been working education for a total six years overall.Mr. Revere is proud graduate of Hampton University where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education.Mr. Revere strongly believes in his purpose to help others to not only understand and live a healthy lifestyle but help be a positive example to others and the community. This is shown in his belief that all students are have a positive impact in their community when they are able to healthy life choices. What Mr. Revere is love most about teaching is the opportunity to work with students and guiding them in a positive way. He believes what helps him the most, when it comes to teaching, is his ability to build relationships with students and getting buy-in from them.Some of Mr. Revere’s passions are running, exercising, and spending time with friends and family. Mr. Revere love spending time outside of school mentoring youth with programs such as boy scouts. Mr. Revere is also very active in community service projects like food distribution drive and school supply drives.
Ms. Sanderlin-ArtVickie Sanderlin is the art teacher at fabulous Brier Creek Elementary and beginning her third year here. She has been teaching art for twenty-nine years and comes to us spanning a broad range of teaching experiences from kindergarten to high school and museum education.
Ms. Sanderlin believes Brier Creek is an exceptional school to teach at and also proud of serving the wider community at Brier Creek.
Ms. Sanderlin graduated with her BFA from East Carolina School of Art and Design and an AM, a Master of Arts from Duke University.
Believing that art education is one of the paths in educating a well-rounded, cultural-rich, successful, and happy child, Ms. Sanderlin loves teaching these creative minds. She is always surprised with the ideas and eagerness that her students generate and express in their art making at Brier Creek Elementary.
Mr. Russell Smith has been involved in education for over 15 years, first as a 3rd grade teacher in Frankin and Wake counties! A few years later he transitioned into the role of Instructional Technology Facilitator in Edgecombe County before returning to Wake County in 2013. He loves helping students and teachers learn how to use new technology tools as well as help them use the tools they already know in creative ways in order to enrich their learning experiences in the classroom.
Mr. Smith loves to help students learn how to implement technology into their learning because he wants them to be able to utilize the technological tools that will help them create, collaborate, and apply critical thinking in the world that awaits them. He looks forward to working with the students and teachers at Brier Creek Elementary School this year in order to help them expand and enrich their experiences using technology in the classroom, and beyond. He loves helping others to learn and grow in their learning, and Brier Creek will be an exciting place for me to do so!
He initially received his Bachelor's Degree in Advertising from Appalachian State University, and a few years later received his Certificate for Elementary Education from ASU as well. He received his Master's Degree in Instructional Technlogy from North Carolina State University. He enjoys drawing, is pursuing a career as a professional voice actor, and loves editing video. He is a fan of the NC State Wolfpack, and his favorite sport is basketball. He is single and his parents live in the Raleigh area.
