    From the PTA

November 1st 6:00 PM Parenting Quests will be presenting a one hour seminar for DRMS on  parenting Tweens and Teens. This local organization is nationally recognized and normally attending one of their seminars like this would cost between $25 and $98 dollars! Your PTA has worked to set this up so that all DRMS parents can join this event at NO COST to you. Parenting Quests' research on brain development as well as general research will help parents understand how your child's brain is working and growing, and how these changes affects their behavior and potentially their relationship with you! Kim Dillon and Dr. Leslie Marshall will be our presenter for this powerful evening event!

Thursday, November 3rd is McTeacher Night at McDonald's! This fun event is one of our students' favorite nights as their teachers will be "working" at McDonald's and be their cashiers and servers! Invite all of your friends and family to join you at the McDonald's on the corner of Durant Road and Falls of the Neuse from 4:30 PM - 7:30 PM!

    8/2 Crystal Coast Field Trip

I sent home a packet of information regarding our Crystal Coast and Tryon Palace field trip. The field trip will be April 19th and the cost is $81 for each student and $81 for each parent chaperone.

You have a couple of payment options if you would like you or your child to attend. You may pay the full $81 by cash/check or OSP. The second option is to do 3 installment payments of $27 each. The first payment if paying by cash/check would be due before we track out next Thursday, but if using OSP (online school payments) you would have until the 23rd to pay either the $81 or the first installment of $27.

We do have students that have a demonstrated financial need, and would need assistance obtaining scholarship funds to attend the trip. If you are willing to donate a trip to another student please send check or cash in with your student with a note detailing you would like the funds to go towards a scholarship.

If you do not intend to send your child on the field trip please have them return the blue form ASAP detailing that they will not be going.

Finally if you have a student that may need help obtaining the funds to attend the trip, please let me know. We do not want anyone left out due to financial circumstances.

    Box Top Contest:

It's time to get your students to turn in their Box Tops! The Top Home room earns a Breakfast Party!  But it is early and we have until October 21st to get those Box Tops in for this contest period!  Last year we earned over $1,700 for our school through the Box Tops program. (This funded 5 Teacher mini-grants!)

The contest is the 6th vs. the 7th vs. the 8th grades to see who "Rules the School!"  Right now 8th grade leads with 1301, 6th is in second place with 949 and 7th grade has 814!  There is plenty of time to get in those Box Tops!  A PTA representative will be picking them up every Friday through the end of this contest!

    Book Drive:

The Beta Club is holding a book drive to support a school in Botswana that Mr.Dunton recently visited. The book drive goes on through the month of October. We are looking for gently used or new books and please bring them in and give to Ms.Cavender she is the 8/2 collector of books. Thanks for your support.

  • Duke University Field Trip

Posted by Heather Cavender on 8/15/2016
    Parents,

Attached are permission slips in English and Spanish for our field trip to Duke University coming up on the 29th of September. We MUST have field trip permission slips back 30 days prior to the trip, there is no exception to this rule.

Unfortunately the trip was just approved today, so I am sending the forms home with students this afternoon. It is imperative that I get these COMPLETED forms back tomorrow before we track out. If that is not possible please email me a completed, and signed form no later than August 25th.

The cost of the field trip is $5.00 however, DO NOT SEND MONEY WITH YOUR STUDENT TOMORROW. Rather, wait until we get back from track out to send money with your child.

I apologize for the late notice, and I am greatly appreciative of your cooperation.

  • Power Schools and Grading Scale

Posted by Katie Bollinger on 7/24/2015
    Parents/Guardians,

As we finish up week 3 of this school year many of us will be starting to post grades into power school.  The current grading scale is still based on the previous grading scale that was used.  Look at the percent and remember that 90-100 A, 80-89 B, 70-79 C, 60-69 D, and 59 and below F.  We are still waiting for the school system to update this scale for us.
