    Welcome Back!

    1. Interims will be sent home with students Friday, February 24.
    2. Our Crystal Coast/Tryon Palace Field Trip is April 19. Please review the itinerary/payment information sent home with your child. The cost is $81 and payment/permission slip is due March 3. We are still in need of parent chaperones. Please contact Mr. Bechard (cbechard@wcpss.net) if you can help!

     This week in 8/3:

    Math 8: Students will begin unit 9 on functions and rate of change. Students will also be receiving a 1st quarter review packet that will be due on Friday.

    Math 1: Students will continue with unit 4 dealing with exponential functions. They will start working with exponential decay senarios. If students have not yet completed their summative assessment posted on Google classroom that was due before track out please make sure they do so by Wednesday so that they do not receive a 0. 

    Language Arts:  We will begin our study of Anne Frank and Holocaust literature. The next vocabulary test will be Feb. 27.

    Social Studies: Students will continue Unit 8: The Gilded Age & Progressive Era. Students have a major essay on immigration due Friday. 

    Science: Students will begin a new unit on diseases. They should bring in their third, unused single-subject notebook in order to create new Interactive Science Notebook for our biology unit.

    1. All missing work is due by the end of the day Tuesday. Grades are due for 8.3 Teachers Thursday.

     This week in 8/3:

    Math 8: Students will begin unit 7 on pythagorean theorem. Unit 7 test will be Monday Dec 19th. It will be their first grade of the 3rd quarter. 

    Math 1:Students will be working on finishing up unit 3 dealing with inequalities and systems of inequalities. Their unit 3 test will be Monday Dec 19th. It will be their first grade in the 3rd quarter.  

    Language Arts:  We will be reviewing figurative language. There are no more tests until after the holidays. New reading logs will start in January.

    Social Studies: Students will continue their study of Unit 6: The Civil War. Students will test on the unit on Tuesday, Dec. 20. 

    Science: This week, we will finish the Oceans section of our Hydrosphere Unit and begin the last part of the unit on water quality. There will be a quiz this Wednesday, December 14. Review ISN pgs. 23-34.

    1. Interims were distributed today. Please make sure you return your child's signed cover letter.

     This week in 8/3:

    Math 8: Students will begin unit 6 dealing with parallel lines cut by transversals. Please focus on the large amount of vocabulary in this unit. 

    Math 1: Students will work with solving systems of equations this week. They will learn three different methods in which to do this. They will have a quiz on Tuesday 12/6.

    Language Arts:  Vocabulary test on Nov. 29. We will be continuing our study of MONSTER in class.

    Social Studies: Students are completing Unit 5 with a look at Andrew Jackson. The Unit 5 Test will be Monday, Dec. 5.

    Science: This week, we will begin the Oceans section of our Hydrosphere Unit.

    1. Please have your child return their signed cover letter for quarter 1 report cards if they haven't done so already.
    2. We will have a makeup day Saturday. Dismissal is at 11:45 a.m. No breakfast or lunch will be served. 

     This week in 8/3:

    Math 8: Students will be working on solving multistep equations this week. They will have a quiz on Thursday. On Friday, we will begin writing equations from words.

    Math 1: Students will be working on scatterplots and writing the equation of a line of best fit. They will have a unit test before tracking out next week.

    Language Arts:  Core 3 is finishing Macbeth and will begin Henry V. All other classes will begin reading and adapted version of Macbeth. Vocabulary test is 10/12/16/

    Social Studies: Students will continue their study of the U.S. Constitution through their "We the People" kinesthetic. There is a quiz Thursday on vocabulary and flipped video notes 4A/4B.

    Science: This week, will begin our new unit on the hydrosphere. Students created their new ISNs today in class. We will focus on properties of water the rest of the week.

    1. Friday is an early release day. Report cards will be sent home with students. 

     This week in 8/3:

    Math 8: Math 8 students took their unit 4 test on scientific notation today 9/26. They will receive it back tomorrow. They will begin their study of equations this week.

    Math 1: Students received their unit 2 part 1 quiz back today. It was reviewed in class. They will now be using what they leared in unit 2 part 1 in application situations. 

    Language Arts:  We are continuing our study of Shakespeare. New reading logs will begin on Monday, Oct. 3.

    Social Studies: Students will be continuing their study of the American Revolution, with a focus on the Revolutionary War. Students will have their Unit 3: American Revolution test Monday, Oct. 3.

    Science: We will wrap up the properties and changes section of our chemistry unit and take a quiz tomorrow (09/27). Review ISN pgs. 61-68 to prepare for this assessment. Later this week, we will move into the last part of our chemistry unit by looking at chemical reactions and chemical equations.

    1. We are still looking for parent volunteers for the Sept. 29 field trip to Duke University. Email Mr. Bechard (cbechard@wcpss.net) if you are interested. You must be approved through WCPSS to chaperone.
    2. We are still missing interim cover letters from several students. If you haven't returned your child's cover letter, please do so.
    3. Any missing work for quarter 1 is due Friday, Sept. 23.

     This week in 8/3:

    Math 8: Students will continue working with scientific notation. They will be multiplying, dividing, adding, and subtracting numbers in scienfific notation. Their unit 4 test will be 9/26. 

    Math 1: Students will complete their investigation of linear equations. They will continue working with the equation y=mx+b. They will have a quiz on Friday 9/23. 

    Language Arts:  We are beginning our study of Shakespeare this week. READING LOGS ARE DUE BEFORE FRIDAY. IT DOES NOT MATTER IF WEEK 8 IS COMPLETE. There will be a vocabulary test next Monday, Sept. 26.

    Social Studies: Students are continuing their study of the American Revolution by examining the Boston Massacre, The Mecklenburg Resolves and Paul Revere's Ride. Students have a quiz Tuesday on vocabulary and flipped video 3A.

    Science: We are moving into the physical and chemical properties and changes part of our chemistry unit this week. Every day, students should review the material covered in class in order to better grasp the ideas and concepts presented in class.

    Math 8: Students will take their unit 3 test on monomials on Tuesday 9/13. They will then begin unit 4 on scientific notation.

    Math 1: Students will begin unit 2 on linear functions on Tuesday. Their retake for unit 1 part 2 will be Friday if needed. 

    Language Arts: We are continuing to study short stories. Core 3 is doing a project on "The Lottery". DBQ 2 is due this Friday.

    Social Studies: Students will took their Unit 2: Colonial North America test Monday. We will begin the American Revolution this week.

    Science: This week, students are learning about elements, compounds, and mixtures and the types of bonds that hold these substance together. The retake for the patterns in the periodic table quiz must be completed by this Friday, September 16th.

    Math 8: Students will complete unit 3 dealing with monomials. Their unit 3 test will be Tuesday 9/13.

    Math 1: Students will complete unit 1 part 2 this week. Their test will be on Thursday. A study guide was sent home Monday.

    Language Arts: We are continuing to study short stories. There will be a vocabulary test on Monday, Sept. 12.

    Social Studies: Students will complete their 13 Colonies Project. The Unit 2 Test is Monday, Sept. 12.

    Science: This week, students are learning about isotopes and ions. There will be a quiz on Thursday, Sept. 8. Review ISN pgs. 37-46 to prepare for this quiz.
