    Who is eligble?

    • A North Carolina high school senior; able to use award up to 4 years
    • A student applying to transfer to an educator preparation program at one of the five Teaching Fellows partner institutions (Elon University, Meredith College, NC State, UNC-Chapel Hill, UNC-Charlotte; able to use award up to 3 years
    • A student already enrolled at one of the five Teaching Fellows partner institutions who transitions into an educator preparation program; able to use award up to 2 years
    • An individual with a bachelor’s degree pursuing preparation for teacher licensure at one of the five Teaching Fellows partner institutions; able to use award up to 2 years
    • High school applicants must have a minimum unweighted high school GPA of 3.0 and must submit an SAT and/or ACT score.

  • NC A&T Dowdy Scholars Program: Deadline- 10/27/20

    The Lewis and Elizabeth Dowdy Scholars Enrichment Program is the premier undergraduate merit scholarship at North Carolina A&T State University created in honor of the university first Chancellor, Dr. Lewis C. Dowdy and his wife Elizabeth. The program provides a four (4)-year renewable scholarship that includes tuition, related fees, and room and board to incoming freshmen who plan to enroll in the upcoming Fall semester.


    This enrichment program invests in students with extraordinary potential to help them become the transformational leaders of their generation. The program is highly competitive, open to all disciplines, and provides access to the best North Carolina A&T has to offer our students.



    To be considered, applicants must meet all the following criteria:

    • Minimum 3.75 cumulative GPA (weighted)
    • Minimum scholastic score 1270 SAT or 27 ACT (test optional for Fall 2021 applicants)
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
    • Submit application for admissions (Early Application deadline) to North Carolina A&T State University
    • Must show exceptional characteristics of leadership and service

  • Cheatham-White Scholarship (NC A&T & NCCU): Deadline- multiple- see post

    The Cheatham-White Scholarship will be established as a merit scholarship program at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and North Carolina Central University to provide an outstanding educational experience for students who are exceptional scholars, versatile and well-rounded individuals. Cheatham-White Scholars will represent students with a broad range of interests, proficient in areas of both the arts and sciences, demonstrate leadership potential and a strong commitment to service.


    Each recipient is a awarded a fully funded four-year scholarship that covers the cost of all of the following: full tuition, student fees, housing, meals, textbooks, a laptop, supplies, travel, and personal expenses. Each scholarship also provides four summers of fully funded enrichment and networking opportunities that may include international travel and study.


    To be eligible for nomination as a potential Cheatham-White Scholarship candidate, a person must satisfy all of the following criteria:

    • Be a competitive applicant for admission as a freshman in the fall semester into a baccalaureate program at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.
    • Be a United States citizen or permanent resident.
    • Be on course to graduate from high school in the spring semester prior to college admission.
    • Minimum 4.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale cumulative GPA
    • Minimum 1280 SAT or 28 ACT (Optional to report)
    • Show exceptional qualities of character and leadership
    • Be significantly involved in extracurricular activities
    • Demonstrate a strong commitment to service


    Students should note the admissions application deadlines for both schools.

    Candidates for Cheatham-White Scholarships shall be selected on the basis of academic merit, honorable character, outstanding leadership potential, and a demonstrable commitment to service. Financial need shall not be a consideration.


    Students who wish to receive a school nomination, please provide Counselor Stacy Davidson (sdavidson2@wcpss.net) the following information.

    • Indicate if you are applying to NC A&T or NCCU (or both)
    • Resume
    • Copy of SAT scores - optional
    • Letter of recommendation from a teacher or advisor that addresses the following: character, initiative, and what qualities distinguish you from other students.  


    Those applying to NC A&T, should submit by Thursday, October 23, 2020.

    Those applying to NCCU, should submit by Friday, October 30, 2020.  


    Students may also self-nominate by clicking the school(s) above to locate the self-nominatation form. 

    Self-nominations are due by: November 1 for NC A&T and November 15 for NCCU.

  • Self-Nomination NCSU Park Scholarship - Deadline 11/01/20

    Students who missed the school nomination deadline or who did not receive the school nomination may self-nominate for the Park Scholarship.  The four-year award is valued at over $100,000 for North Carolina residents.


    Park Scholars are selected based on four criteria: scholarship, leadership, service and character. More details can be found on the Park Scholarships Web site, park.ncsu.edu.


    If you would like to self-nominate for the Park Scholarship, you may do so by going to: http://park.ncsu.edu/apply/, scroll to the bottom and click “Park Scholarships Self-Endorsement.”  Part of the process includes completing the NC State admissions application.

  • Golden Door Scholars- Undocumented Students: Deadline- 10/25/20

    Golden Door Scholars - provide college scholarships to undocumented students interested in pursuing a bachelor’s degree. 


    Eligibility criteria:

    • Applicants must have DACA, TPS or be undocumented, meaning currently not have lawful status in the US
    • Applicants must not be eligible for in-state tuition or federal funding. You can find more details by state here
    • Applicants must be pursuing a 4 year bachelor’s degree


    Scholarship Benefits:

  • Robertson Scholars - UNC-Chapel Hill and/or Duke University: Deadline- 11/15/2020

    The Robertson is among the most highly sought-after merit scholarships in the country. Our comprehensive program provides 4-years of tuition, room and board and mandatory fees, 3 fully-funded summer experiences, funding for conferences and seminars and unique access to the academic and extracurricular offerings on both campuses as well as four years of dedicated leadership development programming.

    Our application deadline is November 15, 2020 for all materials and is independent of the admissions deadlines for UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke University. Students may apply for the Robertson regardless of whether they apply Early Action or Regular Decision at UNC-Chapel Hill and Early Decision or Regular Decision at Duke University.


    It is worth noting that ideal Robertson candidates are students who appear destined to become leaders, not simply students with the best GPA or highest test scores. Traditionally the students who succeed in our selection process and in our program hold a passionate interest in something and show strong evidence of that passion in the activities they pursue.

  • Lenoir-Rhyne University Teaching Scholars Program: Deadline- 11/01/2020

    Lenoir-Rhyne University, located in Hickory, NC, is pleased to announce the 7th year of its Teaching Scholars Program and its scholarship awards. We are recruiting high school Seniors who are interested in a career in teaching, and we encourage individuals to apply for this academic scholarship. Fall 2021 applications are being accepted now. Priority consideration will be given to students applying by Nov. 1, 2020. We strongly encourage students to apply immediately as spaces for this scholarship award are limited. The first step is for the interested student to apply for admission to Lenoir-Rhyne University at: https://www.lr.edu/admission/undergraduate/apply


    Once the Senior applies for admission to the university, he or she must complete a brief application to the Teaching Scholars Program at: https://www.lr.edu/academics/opportunities-for-enhanced-learning/teaching-scholars


    The ideal candidate is an exemplary student with a minimum GPA of 3.5 or higher and is a leader among his or her peers. SAT / ACT score are optional due to the pandemic; however, the student may submit his or her scores if available, per the LRU Admissions Office.

  • Davidson College Belk Scholarship: Deadline- 11/02/20

    The John M. Belk Scholarship is Davidson’s most prestigious merit program. Covering the comprehensive costs of attending Davidson (room, board, tuition and fees). Scholars also receive two special-study stipends of $3,000 each.

    Belk Scholars are those students whose outstanding intellectual ability and success, leadership experience, commitment to service and overall personal vigor mark them as those who will accomplish much and contribute most to the Davidson community and in their lives beyond their college years.

    Each school may nominate two Belk Scholarship candidates. To be considered for a GMHS nominee, please provide Counselor Davidson the following materials in a typed document by November 2, 2020.  Please send the information from your student email to sdavidson2@wcpss.net.
