Responding to Xenophobia
Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, reports of xenophobia and racism have circulated through social media and other forms of public discourse.
Many citizens across the country and some in our community have reported being subjected to xenophobic and racist taunts, comments, and isolation. We must not allow this tension to become an excuse to advance hateful ideologies.
We know that you, as school leaders, do all you can to ensure that students feel safe and valued. We must help our students and families understand and confront xenophobia and racism, especially now within the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
To that end, we have compiled several resources grounded in awareness, reflection, and action to assist you in getting ahead of harmful public discourse and acts of discrimination.
We hope that these resources will assist you in mitigating any incidents that might arise.
