4th & 5th Grade New English Language Arts Resource
As a result of a WCPSS quality review process, teachers in the county were asked what was needed to support learning for their students. Curriculum resources were researched and vetted using a rigorous tool that ensured that the resource met the standards and instructional shifts and would best meet teacher and student needs. This process included field-testing and input from teachers, parents, and the community. In grades 3-8, EL education was found to be in direct correlation with the instructional shifts/standards and the WCPSS Strategic Plan.
This new resource provides extensive opportunities for students to communicate, collaborate, think critically, and be creative. EL provides daily instructional opportunities for students to speak, write, listen, and read increasingly complex texts around a specified topic.
WCPSS has adopted this new resource in a phased-in approach across all Wake County elementary and middle schools. For the 2017-2018 school year, EL was launched in grades three and six. Grades 4, 5, 7 and 8 will adopt EL in the 2018-2019 academic year.
