- Good luck to our Basketball teams as they compete tonight vs. Holly Springs.
- The Apex Friendship Chess Club won first place at a local team tournament this weekend, beating many local chess teams and high ranking players. Congrats to Isaac King, Ryan Poane, Claire McAuley, and Shok Berdiyorov.
- Are you interested in an International Business Degree? This Thursday, SKEMA Intl. School of Business will be here to talk about their Dual Business Degree opportunities with NCSU Poole Business School. Interested students should sign up in Student Services.

- A meeting will be held on Dec 12th in room #2220 during A lunch for 10th or 11th grade students interested in Summer Ventures in Science and Math. Summer Ventures is a 4 week, residential program sponsored by the NC School for Science and Math.
- The Literary Revolutions magazine is having another poetry contest, with a seasonal theme. Submit a poem you've written about something seasonal, like holidays, winter weather or the New Year to literaryrevolutions@gmail.com or dropping them by Mrs. McClellan's room 3208. Poem are due before the holiday break!
- The International Club continues its guest speaker series on Tuesday, Dec. 10 Lunch B. One of our AFHS students, Ilia Mikailli, will speak and answer questions about Iran, That's Tuesday, Lunch B in Room 4102. All are welcome.
- Winter Visual Art Exhibit opens Thursday, December 12th at 6:00PM. Art Students work will be on display! Please come out to support our amazing artists.

- New Year. New Mindset. The mind over miles 5K is a run/walk fundraiser for a mintal helath non-profit. This event is hosted by Sydney Turner, Caley Peters and Jessica Sharda on January 4, 2020. - Jostens will be here tomorrow during lunch in the auditorium lobby. They will distribute Ring Orders, Senior Cap and Gowns, senior products, and take new Senior Orders. New Senior orders will require a $60 down payment.

- FOR FCCLA MEMBERS ONLY: Today we are hosting a Dine-In Day in room 1228 during A lunch. Be sure to invite your favorite teacher to join us! We are also collecting items for our item drive through this Friday. Please bring canned goods, toiletry items and household products to room 1228.
- Workkeys test will be administered to qualifying seniors starting on Thursday, Dec. 5th. Qualifying seniors should have received a letter in homeroom last week. This test is required. Please report to the Media Center NO LATER than 7:25 on your test day. Please bring a valid ID.

- Attention all Artists! It's time for the 5th Annual Holiday Bookmark Contest! Create an original, holiday themed, artistic bookmark and submit it to the library by December 17th. - Attention all students! Musical Auditins will be held Monday, December 2nd from 2:30-5:30pm in the auditiorium. We are producing the musical Cinderella this year, so come on out and audition on Monday. Remember to bring your audition form!

- The US Naval Academy will be in the Compass studio today during A and B lunch. Stop by and pick up information about admissions and application process.
- Congrats to our Football team on their historic season. Unfortunately, they lost on Friday to Hoggard but played as champs!
- Congratulation to Carly Manning winning the Girls Tournament and Tyler Magazine for placing 3rd at the Union Pine Invitational.
- 12 HOSA members competed on Friday at RLC that was held at So. Garner High School. The following students participated in the competitions: Zion Abebe, Czyrene Calcyan, Carlos Haring, Devin Li, Kiki Melaku, Aurea Michael, Cooper Murray, Emily Poteat, Antonio Preziuso, Royalson Shrestha, Kieron Steel, and Samantha Weitzel.

- Are you interested in being on STAGE? Come audition for this year's Spring Musical-Cinderella! You will need to attend the workshop on Monday, Nov. 25th from 2:30-5PM. See the callboard in the Arts wing for more information. You will need to sign up and get a packet. See Mrs. Reaves in Room 1525.

- The AFHS Book Club will meet Thursday during B lunch in the Cube in the library. The genre selected is fantasy. See you then!
- Literary Revolutions would like to congratulate Maija Barshay for winning first place in our first ever poetry contest with her poem, "Poem Response." Second place went to Michele Jennings and third place to Haleema Abdul-Malik. Please come by room 3208 during A lunch this week to claim your prize.
- NHS will be collecting gently used clothes and books for a group of local charities from November 19 to December 6th. Items can be dropped off at Ms. Scanlon's room, 3234, or in the collection box by the main office.
- Reminder: If you signed up to participate in the Smash Brothers tournament, we will be meeting in the Cube both Lunches on Friday, 11/22. Prizes will be awarded.

- Winter Guard auditions begin today thru Wednesday in the band room starting at 5PM. No Experiece is required.
- The US Military Acadmy, West Point, will be on campus November 19th. Sign up in Student Services. West Point offers a 100% fully funded education, medical/dental and a monthly stipend. Stop by Student Services to sign up.
- Shoutout to our Teacher of the Year, Shannon Rybarczyk!
- Our Football team won in the 1st round of playoffs and will travel to Wilmington on Friday to play Hoggard!
- Our cheerleaders competed this weekend at Triangle PreStates and Varsity got 1st and JV got 5th. Great job.

- Our Fall Performance opened last night to great reviews. It continues through Saturday. You can find more info. on our main webpage, under Time Sensitive. You can purchase tickets there, as well.
- For the first time in our school's history, our football is in the STATE Playoffs. They play tonight at Green Hope High. No passes are allowed. Good luck!
- Our cheer teams compete on Saturday at Dorton Arena. Best of luck to both squads.
- The Craft N' Creations Club will be meeting Friday in the Cube of the Media Center during both lunches.
- Students going off campus for lunch, please be careful. These wet conditions can be dangerous.

- It's Opening Night for Greater Tuna, our Fall Production. Tickets are $8 online or at the door. It begins at 7pm.
- Congrats on an amazing soccer season to our Men's team. They played a hard fought battle against Wake Forest last night and unfornately lost by 1 in double OT. We are so proud of their efforts, especially the seniors.
- Winter Guard Auditions will be November 18th, 19th and 20th. Please meet in the band room at 5pm, no experience required.
- Attention Juniors, Junior Conferences are continuing today in the Media Center. Please remember to be on time for your conference. - Apex Friendship Gymnastics team took 2nd at State Championships!
Junior Macy Jennings is the Beam and Floor State Champion.
Macy got a perfect 10 on floor to win her the NC State Champion floor Title.
The team competed well and truly competed like champions, sadly the scores just didn’t fall in their favor for the win.
So proud of these ladies! 3 years in a row conference champions and 2 years in a row to take 2nd at States... not bad for this young team! - Today is the first day of the AFHS Book Club's Holiday Book Drive! Please bring in your new and gently used children's books to the library through December 19th.

Congratulations to all members of the Speech and Debate Team who competed at the Cary High School Tournament this weekend.Logan Lewis placed 4th place in Extemporaneous Speaking, Daniela Paris earned 5th place in Original Oratory, Aurea Michael was 1st in Novice Lincoln Douglas, Haley Turner 2nd, Darla Sean Charles and Edwin Lozada were 3rd and 4th in Novice LD, Zoe Shipley and AJ DeSanto were 4th in Varsity Public Forum, Jessica Lee was 6th in Novice Congressional Debate.

- Spanish Honors Society is having a MANDATORY meeting on Tuesday, November 12th, A half of lunch. This meeting is very important and all members of the chapter must attend.
- The International Club invites you to have lunch and listen to another guest speaker from our international community. Devin Li will speak and answer questions about China during both lunches on Tuesday, November 12th. All are welcome. Room 4102.
- Have you ever heard of a micro-fiction? They are short stories told in only a few hundred words, and you could get your own published in the first ever edition of the AFHS literary magazine! Submit a story that is written in 500 words or less, and send it in to literaryrevolutions@gmail.com, or see Mrs. McClellan in room 3208. Keep it PG-13 and submit up to 2 entries for a chance to win a $10 gift card to Chick-fil-a, a certificate showing your achievement, and a spot in the first edition of Literary Revolutions. The contest starts Monday, November 11th, and runs through Tuesday, November 26th, make sure to get your submissions in before Thanksgiving break!

- Juniors and Seniors: The US Naval Academy will be in the Compass Studio November 12th. There are 15 spots available and the presentation includes a free lunch. Register in student services. Learn about the Naval Academy, the Application Process and how to qualify for $180,000 in scholarship funds.
- Juniors, please be reminded that Junior Conferences will begin next Tuesday. Please be on time for your conference. If you lost your slip, or do not know when you are scheduled to meet with your counselor, please stop by Student Services. If you cannot attend at your assigned time, please contact your counselor directly to reschedule.
- Speech and Debate will meet today in 3210 during B lunch. If you are attending the tournament this weekend at Cary High School, plan to attend.
- Tonight is the common threads concert at 7pm at Apex High School featuring all high school and middle schools of Apex in a choral concert about diversity and inclusion. It’s free!

- PreACT testing is today. We will be on silent bells until testing is finished. There will be NO 10th grade student checkouts until ALL testing is completed. Anticipated time is around 11:00.
- Good luck to our Soccer team as they have a playoff match tonight at home vs. Jordan High School. Only NCHSAA passes will be accepted for admission. All others will pay $7.

- Congratulations to the winners of the 5th Annual Halloween Short Story & Art Contest! 1st Place for the Short Story is Lucy Temple and tied for 1st in the Art Contest are Kailyn Becker and Kayleigh Briggs! The winners need to stop by the library and collect their prizes. Stay tuned for the next library contest!
- Shannon O'Brien is our Teacher Patriot of the Month.
- Key Club Movie Night is tonight at 7pm on our practice Field.
- The PreACT will be administered to ALL sophomores tomorrow. Students should bring a #2 pencil and a calculator. Calculators will NOT be provided. All sophomores should report directly to their testing rooms Wednesday morning. No 10th grader will be checked out during testing, until ALL 10th GRADERS are finished.
- Got Media Fines? You can bring in cans of food to the library in place of fines throughout NOvember. Each can equals $1 off your fines. The food will be donated to a food bank.

Boys - 6th out of 19 teams- Tim Haughton and John Curcio advance to the State Meet as individuals. Tim was also All-Region.
Girls - 3rd out of 16 teams- Girls Team advances to the State Meet for the 1st time in school history. Abby Cowell and Chloe Gee were All-Region.
- Abby Cowell, Chloe Gee, Riley Petersen, Sydney Turner, Natalie Rodriguez, Rachel Heinzerling, and Samantha Weitzel - will all run next Saturday at States.
- National Honor Society has partnered with Migrant Ministry for their fall service project. Staring Monday, they will be collecting men's clothing items and both adult and kid books to donate to the men and women who work in the fields of NC.

10/31/19
- The PreACT will be administered to ALL sophomores Wednesday, November 6th! Students should bring a #2 pencil and calculator. Calculators will NOT be provided. All sophomores should report directly to their testing rooms Wednesday morning.
- Want to hang out and eat some snacks? Come to the fashion club Halloween Party today, in room 1232, during A lunch. Hope to see you there.
- Good luck to our Volleyball team as they compete tonight at Cardinal Gibbons in the 3rd round of playoffs. $7 admission. No passes will be accepted.
- The lunch ISS detentions from the 1st quarter are required. We do reset at the beginning of 2nd quarter.
- Several have asked, "why no costumes"? Per Mr. Wight, with the recent threats, it is important that we can identify everyone on campus, so masks, face paints are prohibited.
- Tomorrow is a teacher workday.
- Daylight Savings ends this weekend so no students should be tardy on Monday, with an extra hour to sleep.

- Congratulations to the Varsity Volleyball team for defeating Corinth Holders in the 2nd round of the state playoffs! The girls play Thursday at Cardinal Gibbons in the 3rd round.
- All grade levels: if you are interested in learning more about this Richmond, VA school plan to attend. VCU offers degrees in Engineering/Business/Denistry/Education/Government/Nursing/Pharmacy and many more. VCU also offers 35 sports, 432 student organizations, Greek Life and Study Abroad opportunities.
- It's Spirit Night for our AFHS Theatre Department! Head out to Pizza La Stella from 11 am until 9 pm and tell them you are a Patriot. 10% of sales will be donated to our theatre department.
- Speech and Debate Spirit Night is tonight at Chipoltle in Apex.

- Our Men's Soccer Team play Apex at home tonight. JV plays at 4:30 and Varsity at 6:15. This is a resecheduled match from earlier.

- Seniors, your yearbook senior quote forms are due exactly one week from today. By November 1st, you should turn in those forms either to the main office or to Mr. Stapleton in room 2236. Extra forms are available both in the office and in 2236. Contact Mr. Stapleton with any questions.
- The 5th Annual Library Halloween Short Story and Art Contest is coming to an end. Make sure you submit your spooky work to the library today!

- For students completing applications for colleges participating in Free Application Week, remember you must submit your applications on CFNC.org by 5:00 in order to receive the waived application fee.

- Attention all seniors who did not get their senior portrait taken over the summer: tomorrow, Wednesday 23rd, Prestige will be on campus for one final round of makeup pictures. Any senior not yet photographed who would like for their portrait to appear in the yearbook should show up during their scheduled sitting. The complete senior portrait makeup schedule has been posted outside of the attendance office. Contact Mr. Stapleton with questions.

- Congrats to the Vollebyball teams for sweeping Cary last night. JV finishes the season 21-1! Varsity finishes 18-4 and enter the playoffs as the SWAC Champions. They will play at home in the 2nd round next Tuesday.
- Last night we had poor sportsmanship at both home sporting events. We have warned you enough about how we expect you to act. From now on, anyone misbehaving and reflecting poorly on all of us will be suspended from all future after school activities.

- UNDERGRAD LIFETOUCH MAKE-UP PHOTOS ARE TOMORROW, IN THE AUX GYM. TO HAVE A FREE RETAKE, YOU MUST BRING YOUR ORIGINAL PICTURE PACKET BACK TO THE PHTOOGRAPHER. FRESHMEN WILL GO AT 7:30, SOPHOMORES AT 8:30 AND JUNIORS AT 9:30. STAFF MAY GO AT ANYTIME BEFORE 10:30.

This is the most our school has ever gotten and Faith Robisch got the 3rd highest score of all Alto one's in the whole state! We're also the third school with most students accepted in the whole state.

- Wake County Job Fair IS free! It's Sunday, September 15, 2019 from 2-4:30 pm at NC State University-McKimmon Center.
- The PSAT will be administered on Wednesday, 10/19. The PSAT is a standardized multiple choice practice test for the SAT. Any 9th, 10th or 11th grader wishing to take the test must submit a registration form and payment to Student Services by Monday, 9/16. If your GPA qualifies you to test for free you still MUST submit a registration. The PSAT administration fee is $17. Registration forms can be found on the AFHS website. Online payment is preferred. - Congrats to the JV volleyball team as they remained undefeated after sweeping Garner last night. The Varsity team opened SWAC play defeating Garner as well. The ladies return to action Thursday at home vs. Fuquay.
- The Women's Golf team had a 1st place finish yesterday at Eagle Ridge shooting a 125. Sophia Martone, Sahej Singh and Malaka Crespin led the way.

- Varsity Football beat Cary last night 22-17.
- JV volleyball continued their undefeated run sweeeping Jordan last night.
- Varsity volleyball defeated a strong Jordan squad 3-1 last night. The Lady Patriots retrun to action Tuesday night as they open SWAC play at home vs. Garner. Game times are 4:30/5:30.
- If your name is on the Junior Lottery List posted outside of the fron office, then you are a lucky recipient of a parking spot. We had 169 spots available. You MUST PAY for this parking spot NOT later than Wednesday, September 4th. We will begin taking payment on Tuesday, in the morning, in the auditorium lobby. If you do not pay by Wednesay, then your pass will go back into the lottery, for future students. To expedite the pick up process, we encourage you to pay ONLINE and bring a copy of that receipt with you, for pick up. PICK UP TIMES for Tuesday and Wednesday: Before 1st bell, at lunch, after school until 3 pm.

- The Women's Golf Team had a 2nd place finish in the 1st conference match of the season. Sophia Martone shot a 41 to lead the way.
- Men's Varsity soccer won 8-1 vs. Lee County. JV Soccer won 3-1. Great job.
- Students: If you cannot access your powerschool, email, (WakeID) you can visit Student Services, the Media Center or ask ANY of your teachers. They can show you what to do. The Staff received an email on "How to reset" .

- Congratulations to our Seniors! You should be in the Auditorium at this time for the Awards ceremony, followed by the Senior SEND-OFF.

- Senior Awards and Send-Off it tomorrow. Seniors should wear their Senior t-shirts and be in the Auditorium by 9:00am. Following the awards, seniors will have a group photo in the stadium. Then will proceed to the basketball courts for a fun afternoon of food, games and a dunk tank!
